Itrsquos a seemingly mundane object but one that can trigger recollections of family gatherings motherly comfort and an era of domesticity long gone by Vintage and vintage-style aprons long associated with hearth and home have once again become popular both with collectors and as a must-have kitchen accessory While writing an article on them essayist and apron archeologist EllynAnne Geisel realized the connection these and other vintage linens have for us woven as they are in the very fabrics of our lives and memories

On Sunday June 13 Geisel will be in Manitou Springs for the Tie One On event---an afternoon of aprons---at safron of manitou springs Black Cat Books and The Avenue Hotel BampB The event will begin with a meet-and-greet for Geisel at safron of manitou springs where vintage and vintage-inspired aprons will be on display and on sale Geisel will discuss her forays into apron archeology At Black Cat Books EllynAnne will be available for a book signing and several stations will be set up where aspiring apronologists can make their own vintage handkerchief and

EllynAnne Geisel first tied on domestic armor in 1999 while writing an article about aprons and was struck by the history she knew must be woven into the fabric of that vintage icon Since then she has gathered more than 400 aprons and apron memories from across America From those stories EllynAnne wrote Apron Chronicles A Patchwork of American Recollections She is the author of the award-winning The Apron Book Making Wearing and Sharing a Bit of Cloth and Comfort now in its sixth printing a companion little gift book Apronisms Pocket Wisdom for Every DayKitchen Linens Book Using Sharing and Cherishing the Fabrics of Our Daily Livesdesigns for her company Apron Memoriesreg She lives with her husband Prince Charming and two sons in Pueblo CO wwwApronmemoriescom
