Diego Rivera was born Diego Maria Concepcion Juan Nepomuceno Estanislao de la Rivera y Barrientos Acosta y Rodriguez on December 8, 1886 in Guanajautu, Mexico.

In 1892 Rivera and his family moved to Mexico City where he attended Carpantier Catholic College.

His father wanted him to join the military but he decided to start taking art classes and the San Carlos University of Art.
