Q1: CODES AND CONVENTIONSIn what ways does your product USE, DEVELOP and CHALLENGE existing codes and conventions?
PLANNING:http://lauramccanna2mediablog.blogspot.com/
I used to upload my planning, research and final products. By keeping a blog, this helped me to keep my
documents organised and in chronological order. I was able to make notes on my work and it allowed other members of the
class to comment on my pieces.
PLANNING:
SOAP FORMS AND
CONVENTIONS
POV SHOTS –Helps the audience
understand the characters emotions.
LITTLE MAKE UP and CASUAL CLOTHES to create
realism.
Filmed ON SET and not on LOCATION.
Camera asthe 4TH WALL
BIG CLOSE UP to create EMOTION
MULTIPLE CHARACTERS -keeps the audience
INTERESTEDand creates PARALLEL
NARRATVIES
Run CONTINUOUSLY on one channel
FEMININE GENRE - aimed primarily at
women
PLANNING:In order to create our own soap opera, we needed to understand the typical CODES AND CONVENTIONS for already existing soap operas.
To fully understand the CODES AND CONVENTIONS of a soap, we deconstructed an episode of EASTENDERS and evaluated it using: CAMERA, LIGHTING, SOUND and MISE EN SCENE.
EVAULATING AN EXISTING SOAPWe watched an existing episode of Eastenders and evaluated it using:• LIGHTING• SOUND• CAMERAWORK• MISE EN SCENE
This PowerPointcan be found on my blog.
SHOT SHOTREVERSE
The SHOT REVERSE SHOT gives the audience a chance to see each character’s individual EMOTION.
4TH WALL
The 4TH WALL lets the audience feel as though they are in the room with the characters, this makes the soap become more REALISTIC.
HOW DOES MY SOAP USE THECODES AND CONVENTIONS?My soap uses a VARIATION OF SHOT TYPES which I have compared with already existing soaps.
