Throughout the seventies, and bands like The Residents and Can championed a movement of experimental music that incorporated elements of electronic music. Can was one of the first groups to use tape loops for the rhythm section and The Residents created their own drum machines. Also in the 1970s different rock bands, from Genesis to The Cars, began incorporating synthesizers into their rock arrangements. In 1979, musician Gary Numan helped bring electronic music to a wider audience with her pop hit "Cars" from the album The Pleasure Principle. While early electric instruments such as Ondes Martenot, the Theremin and Trautonium were little known in Japan prior to World War II, some

composers had knowledge of them at the time, as Minao Shibata. Several years after the Second World War, different musicians in Japan began

experimenting with electronic music, which contributed to institutional support, enabling composers to experiment with the latest equipment for recording and editing audio. These efforts led to a musical form that fused Asian music with a new genus and sow the foundations of Japanese rule in

the development of music technology for decades.
