ARMY LACROSSERYDO GAME

Jack Emmer

JANUARY ##, 2012

Page 2: Coach Jack Emmer rydo

I. RIDING IS AN ATTITUDE! The Winning Edge Anyone can ride – all it takes is 100%

relentless, determined effort all the time Reward effort – not results After a save or a turnover there is not time to

feel sorry for ourselves - Let’s get the ball back It’s the first thing we practice each year –

fall/spring If you can’t ride w/100% effort take yourself

out

Page 3: Coach Jack Emmer rydo

II. OBJECTIVE OF THE RYDO GAME Pre-determine where ball is going Play w/pressure – force clearing team to catch & pass under

pressure Create the feeling there is always someone there Make up ground when ball is in the air Get off with ball quickly For low attackmen it’s OK to get run by – just turn and chase to mid-

line! Create good RYDO situations:

Force defensemen to make cross field pass on the run Cross chest passes on run Middie overdodging on run out Force a catch in the middle of the field when man is closely covered Get the ball on the ground

Page 4: Coach Jack Emmer rydo

III. SET UP QUICKLY – “WIN THE WHISTLE!”

We line up first - then deal with the enemy How to line up:

Attack Midfield Defense

IV. SUBSTITUTION Need to get LS on field for ‘M’ & get him to center of

field if possible

Page 5: Coach Jack Emmer rydo

V. DIFFERENT SITUATIONS vs - 3x w/M’s stacked (Ball on Wing) vs - 3x w/M’s split (Ball on Wing) vs - 3xw/ball in middle vs - 3x w/`D` run out vs - 4x Ball on Wing vs - 4x Ball in middle vs - Sideline clear vs - Spread clear vs - Re-Direct Pass vs – Rydo `3`

RYDO VS. 3x w/ MIDDIES STACKED

Objective: To create pressure, force run-out or long cross field pass resulting in turnover

Key: Pre-determine open man

Page 8: Coach Jack Emmer rydo

i. ALIGNMENT VS 3x CLEAR w/ MIDDIES STACKED

A1 - Pick-up ball 5 yds from back line with inside position

A2 - Cover adjacent man (Goalie) Note: A1 will always pick up ball A2 will always pick up adjacent man If ball is in middle w/the goalie – A2 goes to his

right to next man A3 - plays deep middle – 10 yds from mid-line Middies – M5, LS, M3 – Split field in thirds and

favor ball side. Sprint full speed across field vs ball in air Defense – Sluffing man to man

Page 9: Coach Jack Emmer rydo

ii. RESPONSIBILITIES vs. X-FIELD PASS

A1 - Chases to adjacent man not allowing ball to get returned to middle of field. vs 2nd cross field pass must cut off D1.

A2 - Chases X-Field pass & cuts off D2 from Run-out. vs 2nd cross field pass must stop goalie receiving ball over R-line

A3 – Hangs in deep middle and plays centerfield. If D2 obviously runs ball out A3 helps before mid-line w/delayed slide. Keep center middie in front of you discouraging pass to him until he goes over mid-line then help back side. Alternative – hold A3 on “M” in middle – no cut off of D2

M5 – take away pass to middie in your zone and then sprint full speed to deep middle picking up clearing `M` furthest downfield – can bump LS up once you get there.

Page 10: Coach Jack Emmer rydo

ii. RESPONSIBILITIES vs. X-FIELD PASS (con’t) LS – Play between stacked M’s but favoring furthest `M` downfield. Can’t allow

long pass to `M` downfield. Will slide to ball side on long cross field pass looking to help vs ball after it crosses the mid-line. Can be bumped up by M5 coming over to help. vs Nest cross field pass sprint to middle – pick up uncovered `M`.

M3 – Takes middie away on ball side after long x-field pass. Goes w/him over mid-line if he goes down side line. If he cuts away from ball to middle of field let him go. On next cross field pass sprints to middle communicating w/LS on picking up next open man.

D – All play sluffing man to man. Rule: Jump long pass in air only if you can get there to check sticks before ball gets there. Off side D-man looks for this. Other D-men need to bump over one man if onside D-man jumps ball.

Goalie – Generally helps backside

Teaching Points:

- LS Lines up to open side- does not let ‘M’ get ball- only jumps run out over midline

-M3 goes hard to ball side- bumps LS to run out

-A3- helps vs center middie & then back side

-M5- takes ‘M’ away on ballside

Teaching Points:

- LS take away nearest ‘M’

- A3 split M & D2- ready to jump D2

-M3 split two furthest middies- leaving furthest middie open

-A3- invite first pass to D2- then jump

-A2- should stay on G until ball is thrown downfield

Teaching Points:

- Always go RYDO ‘3’ vs. 4x

-3 attack vs 4x- Chase

-If ‘M’ starts w/ Ball, may have to bring A2 over to help so ‘M’ does not run ball out
