Chase and Status

End Credits

Page 2: Chase and status

• The song is based around death• The lyrics telling me this , when the line ‘When the blood dries in my

veins and my, heart feels no more pain I know, I'll be on my way to heaven's door’ is featured. This gives me a clear understanding that the video will be based around the idea of dying or an accident.

• ‘I'll be on my way to heaven's door’ this gives the audience the idea that the song is much more than death, it talks about the after life.

• ‘I know when I knock, I'll be hoping I don't drop to a place where I will rise, like before’ This line is referring to hell, building a picture in your mind that the video will have something to do with a troubled life and sins, as they are worried about not getting into hell.

• ‘When my mind stops thinking and my eyes stop blinking, I hope… Somebody's there’ ‘When my heart stops beating and my lungs stop breathing In air... I hope somebody cares’ Automatically you understand that the character/signer is lonely and has no one there for him (family and friends etc) this makes you question the reasons why he has lots all his friends and family? Maybe due to his crminal lifestyle?

• So from the lyrics you automatically create a picture in your mind of a world of crime, leading to death.

• After watching the video you come to the realisation that the lyrics connate the video perfectly.

• At the beginning of the music video the opening scene is very dark, this goes with the sound of the guitar strumming that sounds very slow and sad. You then notice a few blurred dots that are street lights that are flickering to the beat of the music- this creates a very good effect.

• As the music is very slow during the intro the next visual is a man (the main character of the video) is shown falling to the floor, however it has been slowed down. Therefore the intro has a big connate to the music video, everything is in sync and very well thought through.

• From this only you can tell that the main storyline of the video will link the the lyrics perfectly. It will be a sad and meaningful video, due to the use of lights and dark setting.

• The lights might even be used as a metaphor, ‘the light’ which some believe you see before death? Also the fact the lights stop flickering when the man hits the floor may mean that he is dead and everything becomes more surreal.

Flickering lights

Strong, clear and more prominent lighting occurs

You realise that he is looking back on his life

Rising up to ‘heaven’s door’ as he comes to terms with all the bad he’s done? Or maybe he understands this is his time to leave after he’s damaged so many other people’s lives?

As the character is lying on the floor he is shown moving his eyes around, as if he is looking back on the different things that have happened in his life and the are all laying out in his mind.

These three pictures are taken from the music video, the main character know as ‘Plan B’ is reflecting on his life and all the things that he’s done. From these imagines you can tell he lives/lived a life of crime leaving him to repeatedly sing the lyrics ‘When my heart stops beating and my lungs stop breathing In air... I hope somebody cares’ and ‘I know when I knock, I'll be hoping I don't drop to a place where I will rise, like before’.

The camera angle of this image is a close up, exactly the same as the ones that simultaneously show of Plan B. This maybe showing that even though he put the elderly man in hospital, they are both the same, human. Maybe he regrets this as he has realised they aren’t so different?

I have cropped the image slightly, however the original image featured in the video is a mid shot. I feel this has been used to allow the viewer to see the intensity and pain in the victims face. This shows the character in the video to be a more vicious character. Contrasting completely with the vulnerable person we see flash backs of laying on the road, alone. And the person singing in the background of all this chaos.

‘When my mind stops thinking and my eyes stop blinking, I know…. at the end’-this is the last verse sung whilst the image above is displayed. The character is floating up into ‘heaven’? Possibly. Meanwhile majorly effecting and engaging the audience. And all the hidden meanings of death you are left to think about soon become clear.
