INT. SCHOOL DAY 1
A young African-American boy walks down the halls of his
school with his head held low. He clutches his books in his
hands and holds them close to this chest. He walks through a
crowd of other kids who pick on him.
BULLIES
Hey, NICK! Where are you going?
Nerd! Maybe you need to find a
different school to go to, your not
welcome here.
Nick continues to walk by, ignoring what the other white,
jock, bullies are saying to him. One kids tries to trip
Nick. His books fall out of his hand and onto the floor.
NICK
What’d you do that for?
BULLIES
Because your a Geek, Geek!
Nick bends down to pick up his books as one of the other
boys kicks one of his books down the hall. Nick chases it.
Nick, still gathering his books, looks up as he’s greeted by
JOHN.
JOHN
Hey Nerd, don’t forget this one.
John holds one of Nicks books over his head as he’s picking
the others up. He drops it and it hit’s Nick in the head,
cutting his eye.
NICK
auhh! What did you do that for? I’m
telling.
Nick runs off embarrassed and on the brink of crying.
EXT. SIDEWALK DAY 2
NICK walks home with his books in hand and a cut over his
eye. He mutters words of anger as he walks home in shame.

EXT. NICKS HOUSE DAY 3
He walks up to his house and is greeted by his older
brother, JEROME. His brother is standing on the porch with a
beer. He’s wearing a wife beater and dickies. He has 2 tear
drops tattooed below his eye. He raps his arm around NICK.
JEROME
Hey lil bro, you just getting back
from school?
NICK
(ashamed)
Yea.
Nick nods his head yes, holding his head down and is
somewhat embarrassed. Jerome glances over and catches a
glimpse of the gash over Nicks eye.
JEROME
Who did this to you?
NICK
Some jocks at school where picking
on me, and one hit me in the head
with a book and it cut me.
Jerome and Nick walk into the house together and drop off
his books. Jerome tells their mother that he and Nick are
going to be leaving and that they will be back soon.
MOTHER
Ok, be careful, and don’t get into
any trouble.
Jerome and Nicks mother gazes at the two as if to suspect
something. She sees Nicks eye.
MOTHER (cont’d)
Nick, what happened to your eye?
Not them damn boys at school again.
Am I gonna have to go down there to
that school again?
JEROME
Don’t worry ma’, he’ll be fine. I’m
going to take care of it.
Jerome and Nick walk out the front door and close the door
behind them.

INT. CAR DAY 4
JEROME and NICK leave their house in Jeromes car. It has
rims and dark tint.
JEROME
Look lil bro, you can’t be letting
these punks push you around. You
need to learn to stick up for
yourself.
Nick looks over at his brother, still with this head down in
shame.
NICK
I know, but...
JEROME
But nothing. If you let them do
this now, just think what it’s
going to be like when you get to
high school.
Jerome removes his pistol from under his shirt and reaches
over Nick. He opens the glove box and slides the gun in and
closes it.
NICK
Were did you get that?
JEROME
Don’t worry about that lil bro, I’m
going to take care of you.
Jerome and Nick pull into the mall parking lot and park the
car. They both exit and walk into the mall.
JEROME (cont’d)
See brotha, if you want to be like
me one day, you have to start
acting like it. You saw my toy, now
it’s time to get you one of your
own.
INT. MALL DAY 5
NICK
Really. Your going to get me one.
You going to teach me how to shoot?

JEROME
Yea, but you can’t tell mom, she’s
already told me not to buy you any
guns, but she ain’t going to know
about this, right?
NICK
yea, I can keep a secret. I’ve
always wanted my own.
NICK and JEROME walk into an Airsoft toy store.
INT. TOY STORE DAY 6
JEROME
These airsoft guns are suppose to
be pretty tight.
NICK picks out a gun that he likes and hands it to his
brother. It’s a 9mm replica that shoots plastic pellets.
NICK
This one, this is the one that I
want.
JEROME
You sure, Ok.
JEROME takes the gun and brings it to the counter. The clerk
rings him up and Jerome takes a wad of cash out of his
pocket and pays for it. He hands the bag to Nick and they
leave the store.
EXT MALL DAY 7
NICK and JEROME exit the mall and walk through the parking
lot to their car.
JEROME
Now I have to show you how to use
that thing. Listen, guns can be
dangerous even if it is a toy, so
don’t be pointing it at anyone. I
dont’ care if you shoot stuff, but
just don’t get in trouble.
NICK
I know, I won’t, I promise.

Jerome drives to a large field down the street from their
house and they both get out and sit on the hood of the car.
Nick opens the package of his new toy and fumbles with the
bullets.
JEROME
Here, hand that thing to me and
I’ll get it loaded for you. Watch
me and then you will know how to do
it.
Jerome takes the gun from Nick, opens the plastic pellets
from their pack and continues to load the gun with ammo.
NICK
So.. they go in there?
JEROME
Yea, you load it here, pull this
back, and your ready to fire!
Jerome hands the gun back to Nick.
JEROME (cont’d)
Here, now aim at something and pull
the trigger!
Nick grips the gun with two hands and points the gun up in
the sky.
JEROME (cont’d)
Wait, Wait.. Look you need a
target. Let me set something up for
you.
Jerome grabs an old can and sets it up in the distance for
Nick to aim at.
JEROME (cont’d)
There, now aim at that can and
shoot.
Nick takes aim at the can and pulls the trigger. He misses.
He takes aim again and misses a second time.
NICK
I guess it’s not as easy as I
thought it was.
Nick looks over at his brother for help. Jerome takes the
gun from him and shoots off a few rounds.

JEROME
It takes practice, but you’ll get
it. Now load up and let’s head back
to the house. You can come out here
later after school. Make sure you
have your home work done first
though. And don’t let mom find this
gun or else I’ll kick your butt.
Nick and Jerome get in the car and drive back to their
house.
INT. HOUSE NIGHT 8
NICK is laying in bed. He slides his new gun out from
underneath his bed and gazes at it before he goes to sleep.
He slips it back under the bed and goes to sleep.
EXT FEILD DAY 9
NICK is outside in the large field again and he’s alone this
time. He has brought this gun in his backpack. He sets his
bike down and take his gun out. He loads it and takes aim at
some birds in the trees. He fires.
Some neighbors see Nick with his gun. They call the POLICE.
The Police arrive at the field shortly after.
POLICE
Boy! Put your gun down and step
back. We need to talk to you.
Nick doesn’t hear them the first time, he’s still busy
shooting things in the field and doesn’t see the Police.
POLICE (cont’d)
Boy! I said! Put the gun down and
step back here so we can talk to
you.
Nick finally notices the police and quickly drops the gun.
He walks back to the cops and gazes inicently up at them.
NICK
Sorry, I didn’t hear you. I was..
uh..
POLICE
Don’t worry, your not in trouble,
we just got a call about someone
with a gun and we had to come check
(MORE)
(CONTINUED)

POLICE (cont’d)it out. Now, don’t be shooting
these peoples houses or anything.
Don’t be killing anything either.
You be safe now, and get home it’s
getting dark.
NICK
Ok..
Nick slides his gun into his backpack and jumps on his bike
and heads home. He pulls up to his house on his bike and
notices something strange. The front door is open.
INT. LIVING ROOM NIGHT 10
NICK walks in throught the open front door and sees his
mother on the floor. She’s unconcious.
NICK
Mom, are you ok? Mom...
Nick runs and hides in his room. He pulls his gun out of his
backpack. He holds it with two hands, shaking.
He hears noises coming fromt the kitchen, it’s two people
talking. They are robbing the house.
Nick walks out of the room with the gun in his hands,
pointed directly at the two white men.
ROBBER
Boy, you better hope that gun is
real. Go ahead, SHOOT!
The two men laugh and continue what they were doing.
Nick pulls the trigger on his gun and shoots off about 3
shots. They bounce right off the mans leg.
The man pulls his gun out, fires at Nick, striking him in
the chest. He’s FALLS. Laying on the floor next to his
mother.
The robbers flee.
