The image of the forest trees immediately shows the audience where the film is set, therefore giving the audience an insight to the film within the first glance. Forests are usually linked to fear as it explores the ‘unknown’, and amongst many movie goers, a common fear is the fear of the unknown, and prompts many questions regarding the forest and its safety. The white text is put in the middle of the poster because people will notice it straight away, and they will be filled in about the narrative of the film instantly. This specific text can also be found in their official trailer, showing a synergy between different forms of promotion used by the ‘The Blair Witch’ team. The eyebrows of the protagonist are shown on the centre of the poster below the text, and they appear to be raised, connoting that he is anxious and possibly in danger, signifying the thriller genre of the film. The torch shows him shining the light in his face, possibly to give him light so he can record himself as evidence, which is the backbone of the story. The symbol can also be easily seen on the poster. When the audience first see it on the poster, they think of it as a mysterious symbol, perhaps linked to the danger that is haunting the protagonist on the poster. In the plain areas which have neither text nor any other symbols, they have put black, further signifying danger and the fear of the unknown. The name of the film appears at the bottom of the poster, as this is where the viewer would look last, and therefore the name of the film would be remembered.
