1. What gender are you? My first question was to just clarify how many males and females had taken my survey. This would tell me what kind of band or artist I need to feature in my magazine, and who it should be aimed at. As you can see from this pie chart, 70% of the people that I asked were female, meaning that I have to take into account that the majority of my results will be from a female perspective. 2. Which music artist, out of these, do you prefer? I decided to ask this question to give me an idea of who is the most popular artist, so that I haven idea of who should feature on mine. I gave the user four options: Britney Spears, for those who liked solo artists more from the 1990s Rihanna, for those who like more R’n’B music and recent artists The Saturdays for those who like extremely recent bands The Pussycat Dolls, for those who prefer girl bands who are American and quite recent. As you can see from these results, 50% of my respondents said that they most preferred Britney Spears. This means that for my magazine, I feel that I should probably include a pop solo artist, similar to Britney Spears, as this is a large proportion of my respondents who chose her. The least popular music artist/s were The Saturdays. This tells me that people do not enjoy extremely recent and new bands on the music market as much as those more well known bands from the past. 3. What features do you most enjoy reading about?

I gave the user four options:

Britney Spears, for those who liked solo artists more from the 1990s

Rihanna, for those who like more R’n’B music and recent artists

The Saturdays for those who like extremely recent bands The Pussycat Dolls, for those who prefer girl bands who are American and quite recent.

I asked this question to help give me an idea of what my double page spread should be about. As you can see from this pie chart, the majority of people enjoy reading about interviews with bands/solo artists etc., with 45% choosing this option. Second most popular were information on music events, with 30% choosing this as their favourite. As this percentage is quite close,

I could put some information about music events in the side bar of my double page spread, so that my page appeals to more people.

4. How much would you be willing to pay for a pop magazine? I asked this question as I wanted to get an idea of how much people are willing to pay for a music magazine. I could then charge the correct price for my magazine, so that the most amount of people would buy it. From my bar chart, it shows that the majority of people (13/20) said that they are willing to pay £1.50-£2.00 for a magazine. This was the

highest option I gave, which meant that people are willing to pay quite a high price for a music magazine. Even if I charged less than £1.50 and so people would still buy it, I am potentially losing money as they are willing to spend more. Therefore, I will charge between £1.50 and £2.00 so that I still receive customers yet I am also gaining as much money and profit as I can.

5. What colours attract you most on the front cover of a magazine? This question will help give me an idea of what colours I should include on my front colour, and what would attract their attention the most. I want to attract attention to my magazine so that people are more drawn to my cover and are then interested in it enough to purchase it. If my magazine did not stand out well enough, people may just overlook it in the store which

would not be good for my company’s sales. I decided to offer quite a few options to choose from, including a section for the user to enter ‘other’. This is because I want to make sure that I include as many options as possible to find the right colour for my magazine. As you can see, red appears to be the colour that people are most drawn to, followed by blue and then pink. Red was probably chosen as it is a very bold and bright colour, which would clearly draw your attention to it. Colours such as green and yellow do not attract much attention, which is why I will not use these colours on my magazine.

6. Do you prefer to see solo artists or pop bands on the front cover? This question helped give me an idea as to who I should feature on the front of my magazine. From question two, I already found out that Britney Spears was the preferred music artist. The results

to this question supports the fact that my audience would rather have a solo artist on the front cover, as bands are probably quite distracting, due to the amount of people that have to feature on the front. Therefore, for my magazine, I will feature a solo artist, similar to Britney Spears as I know that this is probably what my audience would like to see.

7. Do you prefer to read weekly magazine to fortnightly magazines? I asked this question so that I have an idea of how frequently I should run my magazine, and from these results, it is clear that more people prefer to read weekly magazines. However, I now have to be careful with the price I charge. Although most people would be willing to pay £1.50-£2.00, I am not quite sure whether this is for

a weekly magazine or fortnightly. Therefore, I will probably charge more around the lower band of this, for example £1.50-£1.70. This means that I am still charging within the higher band, yet it is not that high for people to not want to pay for it and cause my company to lose sales.
