The silent era came to an end when Ardeshir Iraniproduced his first talkie, 'Alam Ara' in 1931. Iraniwas the father of the talkie.

50s and 60s were considered as the Golden Ageof Indian cinema. Filmmakers like Satyajit Ray,Ritwik Ghatak, Guru Dutt, Bimal Roy, Mehboob Khan,Raj Kapoor made waves in their respective filmindustries and they went to make classics like PatherPanchali, Madhumati, Do Bheega Zameen, Shree420, Mother India, Mughal E Azam among manyother films.

Amitabh Bachchan rose to prominencethanks to the success of Sholay, Zanjeer andDeewar. While Dev Anand, Rajesh Khanna,Jitendra and Dharmendra continued to bask inthe glory of back to back hits. The actresseswere not far behind.

In 90's, it was a mixed genre of romantic,thrillers, action and comedy films.
