What is Science?

The word science comes from the Latin "scientia," meaning knowledge. Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence.

What is Engineering?

Engineering is the application of science and math to solve problems. Engineers figure out how things work and find practical uses for scientific discoveries. Scientists and inventors often get the credit for innovations that advance the human condition, but it is engineers who are instrumental in making those innovations available to the world.

What is Technology?

What Is Technology? Technology is a body of knowledge devoted to creating tools, processing actions and extracting of  materials. The term ‘Technology’ is wide and everyone has their own way of understanding the meaning of technology. We use technology to accomplish various tasks in our daily lives, in brief; we can describe technology as products, processes or organizations. We use technology to extend our abilities, and that makes people as the most important part of any technological system.

Wireless CommunicationWireless communication is among technology’s biggest contributions to mankind. Wireless communication involves the transmission of information over a distance without help of wires, cables or any other forms of electrical conductors. The transmitted distance can be anywhere between a few meters (for example, a television’s remote control) and thousands of kilometres (for example, radio communication).

Examples of Wireless

CommunicationRadio:Radio was the firstly introduced wireless communication device, through which, communication is established without any physical connection. Science has brought human close in spite of their geographical distance, which was got success by Engineering where, Technology invents the Radio which made easier the wireless communication

Mobile:The mobile phone base station receives the radio signal of a mobile phone – and the information to be transmitted – with its receiving antenna. It relays this signal, via a traditional cable connection or a microwave link, to the mobile switching centre. The mobile switching centre is responsible for routing calls and handling the entire connection, including ringing through to the end connection. It also carries out services such as call forwarding, call waiting or conference calls. Additionally, it registers the billing data. The mobile switching centre will either hand the call over to the traditional fixed network or to another mobile switching centre that will transmit the call to the base station closest to the called party. It is from here that it can reach the mobile phone.

Global Positioning System (GPS):

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in

all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS

satellites. The system provides critical capabilities to military, civil and commercial users around the world. It is maintained by the United States government and is freely accessible to anyone

with a GPS receiver.

Advantages of Wireless Communication system:

i.      Communication has enhanced to convey the information quickly to the consumers.ii.        Working professionals can work and access Internet anywhere and anytime without carrying cables or wires wherever they go. This also helps to complete the work anywhere on time and improves the productivity.iii.       Doctors, workers and other professionals working in remote areas can be in touch with medical centres through wireless communication.iv.       Urgent situation can be alerted through wireless communication. The affected regions can be provided help and support with the help of these alerts through wireless communication.v.         Wireless networks are cheaper to install and maintain.

Page 16: Wireless Communication

Disadvantages of Wireless Communication system:

1. It's a bit more difficult to setup properly2. Risk of 'outsiders' accessing your network unless robust security protocols are enabled (exp WPA, WPA2)3. Significantly slower than a wired network (2 – 50 times slower).4. The network can be less stable. Wireless reception may be impaired by a number of factors including large distances or objects between wireless devices, and other wireless networks.
