TRI-CORE PROJECTS
Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) is an integral part of Tri-Core’s commitment to employees, partners, clients and the public. The construction services business, by nature, requires the handling of materials that can be hazardous to health and/or the environment as well as the operation of heavy equipment working in sensitive environments. Tri-Core’s HS&E policies, procedures and programs are designed to address these risks. Tri-Core’s HS&E programs have been found to meet the most stringent and comprehensive requirements.
Our management has the responsibility for the promotion and administration of the program, which is directed to ensuring that occupational health issues are considered for each job site including establishing an effective accident prevention program.
The importance that Tri-Core places on HS&E is demonstrated by:
Implementation and compliance are the responsibility of each employee. “Front Line Safety” is the underlying principle of our safety program. Each employee is trained to understand that they are responsible for not only his/her personal safety, but also for that of co-workers on the project team and the public. Tri-Core is working to maintain the culture of health, safety and wellness company wide.
HEALTH, SAFETY, & ENVIRONMENT
• Tri-Core’s comprehensive HS&E Program and Manual
• Site-specific HS&E Plans to complement the Program
• All new employees receive a comprehensive orientation to their work, including a detailed review of
Tri-Core’s HS&E Program as well as the program of the client whose sites they will be working on.
• A near miss reporting program, job safety analysis, job specific hazard identification and dedicated
safety coordinators and training
• A Safety Incentive Program to recognize prudent handling of job safety and reward our employee
who take initiative to go above and beyond

SAFETY ACCOUNTABILITY
In line with the value of front line safety is being responsible
for it. This commitment starts at the corporate level and
extends with the same strength to the field. We empower
our personnel so that everyone is accountable for safety and
the success of reaching our goals so that nobody gets hurt.
Tri-Core’s President is the Corporate HS&E Manager. He
is supported by our VP of Operations and the dedicated
regulatory professionals in Tri-Core’s office.
SAFETY PERFORMANCE
At Tri-Core, we monitor our health and safety performance
on a quarterly basis. Performance and trending is reviewed
and evaluated for the purpose of identifying education and
training requirements, auditing requirements and revisions
or additions to Tri-Core’s HS&E policies and procedures. All
of which influence Health & Safety plans for the upcoming
year and if more urgent, the upcoming quarter.
In addition to tracking incidents and accidents, we also
conduct hazard identification, behavior observations
and near miss reporting as proactive activities to reduce
incidents in the workplace and prevent injuries.
These three activities are used to identify leading trend
indicators, these activities that have the potential to result
in serious accidents or injuries if we do not address them
immediately. At Tri-Core, we are committed to achieving
zero injuries and encourage our employees and contractors
to report hazards or at-risk behavior to proactively
implement measures to mitigate these occurrences.
Prior to the commencement of site work, Tri-Core Project Managers prepare a site-specific Health & Safety Plan. Provision of this Plan will not affect the responsibility of other parties for the safety of their own personnel. Tri-Core conducts the prescribed scope of work in accordance with all applicable codes, statutes and regulations.
WE MONITOR OUR HEALTH AND SAFETY PERFORMANCE ON A QUARTERLY BASIS.

Tri-Core is a recognized leading contractor in Tunnel Boring
and Pipe Jacking. Our capabilities take projects from
concept to completion in tunneling estimating, construction
management and project execution. Working closely with
our clients, and consulting engineers, Tri-Core provides
design expertise for a multitude of tunneling works ranging
from large land drainage projects in urban settings to remote
locations in environmentally sensitive areas.
Tri-Core owns and operates a number of Guided Boring
Machines (GBM) and Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM).
The GBM systems offer customers millimeter installation
accuracy for pipe diameter ranging from 100mm to
900mm with shots as long as 110m. The GBM systems
are remotely operated. They provide the spoil removal
process of the auger boring machine and the same level of
accuracy as traditional micro-tunneling—all in one compact,
multifaceted system. Our TBM systems are used to install
pipes ranging in diameter from 1200mm to 2700mm with
shots as long as 200m. The TBM system is controlled by an

• Soil Nail Earth Retention Systems
• Soldier Pile and Lagging System
• Specialty Drilling and Excavation
We have developed industry-leading expertise with
all types of geotechnical construction techniques used
for temporary shoring systems. Some of our shoring
systems have been developed as a result of the demand
for structurally excavated shafts for the launching and
retrieving of our GBM and TBM machines.
We have continuously looked to develop innovative
and cost-effective techniques for installing structural
shoring systems. One of our most successful installation
methods includes the drilling of round shafts and installing
engineered shoring. We currently drill shafts and install
round shoring to 6m diameter and 15m deep. Tri-Core also
installs structural shafts and cantilevered shoring walls using
soldier piles, lagging and tie-backs.
Based on site specific conditions, our experts can help
design and construct Engineered Shoring Systems that
minimize disturbance to existing structures and allow
construction to continue safely.

Tri-Core has supplied and installed precast concrete culverts
in countless applications. Precast culverts install fast,
provide the highest level of strength and durability, are less
dependent on backfill, require little to no maintenance,
can withstand more aggressive compacting and they are
manufactured locally.
Primarily intended for use as a horizontal conduit where
headroom is limited, precast boxes can significantly cut the
costs by reducing or eliminating formwork, dewatering, traffic
control and curing when compared to cast-in-place concrete.
Precast boxes can be designed for various depths and
loading conditions including truck, railway and airplane loads.
Similar to concrete pipe, precast box culverts are available
in unique configurations including mitre bends, wyes, cast-in
baffles, and manhole access openings.

Class I and II landfill designs provide one of
the highest levels of containment available
in the industry today. Class II regulatory
standards incorporate all the following
features into design:
• Multi-layer containment barrier consisting of an engineered clay liner and a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) liner
• In cell leachate collection, removal and disposal system
• Ground water monitoring system
• Surface run on and run off controls

TRI-CORE PROJECTS
Tri-Core has considerable experience completing projects
involving work within streams, wetlands and foreshore
areas. Execution of reclamation work in these sensitive
locations requires additional planning and experience for
its successful completion. This includes working closely with
the various regulating authorities such as those involved
in fisheries, port or river authorities and environmental
regulatory agencies.
It is often necessary to complete this type of work within
specified fishery windows in order to reduce the potential for
negative impacts on the existing fish habitat.
Execution of foreshore works typically involves the installation
of sediment control measures. These measures can include
installation of absorbent booms, aqua dams, silt curtains
and in fast moving waters or extremely sensitive areas the
installation of sheet pile walls may be necessary. Restoration
of disturbed areas, including replacement of erosion control
measures and replacement of riparian zones and/or wetland
vegetation can also be a requirement.
