Background Information

§ Have you been in a situation where you knew your answer was correct but didn’t have an immediate way to prove it?

§ …that’s never going to work.

§ …that design is way too flimsy.

§ …there’s got to be a better way to do that.

Background Information

§ STAMCO Specialty Tool & Manufacturing Co., a customer of HRS, was designing mold tooling for a customer of theirs.§ www.stamcotool.com

§ The tooling was for a 24” diameter plastic cap, to be fitted on the end of a pipe.

§ Could the spec’d injection molding machine handle this part?

Background Information

§ Four approaches that they could take:§ Ignore due diligence.§ Physically test.§ Purchase software to analyze in-house.§ Hire a consultant to analyze for them.

§ STAMCO decided to go with HRS Analysis Consulting.

Conclusion

• Based on the required clamp tonnage reported by SolidWorks Plastics and from rule-of-thumb calculations, the machine that was spec’d out to mold the part had insufficient clamp tonnage.

Summary

• STAMCO was concerned that their customer’s part could not be molded.

• STAMCO wanted to do their due diligence and get another validation point on whether the part would mold.

• By partnering with HRS Analysis Services, STAMCO was able to get that additional source of validation.
