How to transfer Activity Codes from one programme to another
Amr M. Morsy, Consolidated Contractors Company, March 2017
Activity Codes are very useful and helpful tools to the Primavera P6 users. They have wide
applications that can be used in determining the Activities related to specific subcontractor,
trade, MEP system….etc. Also they are needed by the Forensic Planners who are working on the
analysis of the impacted paths and activities. So, they can assign codes to the impacted
Activities, to use filters on them, and they can transfer the code to different programme update
to monitor the behavior of those impacted Activities in them.
These are the following steps to transfer the codes between programmes:
1- Open the programme containing the activity codes that you want to transfer
2- Export Activities from Primavera P6 to Excel using the template shown in Figure 1
Figure 1

3- After Exporting, open the Excel file, then delete the column of the Activity status, to avoid any
errors in importing the file again the Primavera P6
4- The “WBS CODE” in the exported file contains the project ID of the Programme used to export
the file from. So, you can’t Import that file to the new programme until you change the Project
ID. To do that go to the column of the “WBS CODE” in the exported file, then press (CTRL + H),
and replace the old project ID with the new one as shown in Figure 2
Figure 2
5- Finally the Excel file is ready to be exported into the new Primavera P6 Programme, but to save
time from the importing process, you need to remove the Activities that don’t have that code
from the Excel file before importing it using “Excel filters”.
Using Excel files exported from Primavera P6 can allow the user to transfer the Activity codes easily and
accurately and this method saves a lot of time and effort in setting the codes manually on Primavera P6.
