HW 300 Highwall Miner

• In the current market cost reduction is imperative to be competitive.

• Is your operation moving towards an uneconomic strip ratio ?

• Is development of an Underground Operation on the horizon ?

• The HW300 can offer a low cost production alternative that can extend your

open cut operation.

• The HW300 can access additional Coal once thought of as unattainable and

as such provide additional revenue.

• Without the need for employees to go underground.

What is Highwall Mining?

• The ability to mine coal from…

– a visible, horizontal coal seam

– rectangular, parallel, unsupported drives

– unmanned cutter head and coal transport system

– mining unit positioned outside the drive, in front of the highwall

No people underground!

Why use a Highwall miner?

Maximum Extraction – Low cost coal compared to traditional mining methods

Safe Operation – The entire mining cycle is completed by a four man crew,

with no personnel going underground at any time.

Low cost production method:

– No removal of overburden required

– No lighting, ventilation, roof support, etc.

– Highly automated, high production per man hour

Extracts additional coal, otherwise lost:

– Mines coal beyond economic strip ratio

– Under spoil heaps

– Under some surface features (environmental, infrastructure, cultural)

Excellent Mobility – Highwall miner trams easily from entry to entry and

discharges coal in tight spaces

Result: More coal from the same property, using existing infrastructure

– Higher return on investment

– Less environmental impact compared to full Open Cast mining

– Possibility to “direct-ship” coal by selective mining

Introduction to WDS

• Mining & Energy Sector services company

• Underground mine services cover all facets of the business

• Seeking to diversify into the Open Cut (O/C) sector

– HWM deemed a good addition to the suite of services provided

– Bridges the gap - current U/G and future O/C services

Typical Highwall Mining Applications

• Final highwall of an Open Pit

Australian Target Market

• Trench mining

Opportunities exist in Australia

• Contour mining

Not Common in Australia
