What follows are 21 IoT products that I consider to be at the forefront of innovation amidst a sea of devices and software at Hannover Messe 2017.

EDGE INTELLIGENCE

SOFTWARE FOR IIOT

FogHorn is a technology leader in the rapidly emerging domain of intelligence at the edge or what many refer to as fog computing. FogHorn breakthrough edge software platform is a critical element in bringing the power of big data and real-time stream processing to onsite locations for industrial customers and for use cases in markets such as manufacturing, oil and gas, power and water, renewable energy, mining, transportation, health care, smart grid and more.

BAUDIS - IOT PREDICTIVE

MAINTENANCE SYSTEM

BAUDIS IoT, which is a predictive maintenance system including comprehensive options. The networked system generally consists of sensors of a BAUDIS IoT Box and of software including big data algorithms. The collecting of the data is made by decentralized sensors at the drive. They gather the motor state and in this way can signal a bearing failure. The gathered data are distributed by the Baumüller solution BAUDIS IoT box. The system can be used independent of the manufacturer of automation components and of the sensing and thus can be easily retrofitted.

CRONETWORK - BI & BIG

DATA

Cronetwork enables you to conduct analyses and evaluations, e.g., to detect cause & effect relationships, display them graphically and derive appropriate measures. Wecan also support you in integrating your MES data into your existing BI landscape.

Cronetwork and all the systems integrated via interfaces continuously generate data that are saved in a central database. The great challenge is to process these data in a user-specific and useful way.

IOTWORX

ICONICS IoTWorX is software that runs on standard IoT devices and communicates with the Microsoft Azure IoT Suite using the most popular transport protocols. Once online the IoT gateway can register with an Azure IoT Hub so that it can authenticate, send and receive data, and act as a secure message broker to enableremote device management, provisioning and configuration. The solution can be safely configured from anywhere in the world with its onboard energy, building and industrial automation protocols, such as BACnet, OPC UA, Modbus and Web services.Data security is ensured by built-in capabilities and the Azure platform, making the ICONICS IoTWorX one of the most comprehensive software solutions for the IoT market.

LOOPEDGE

Loop Edge provides several key functionalities that are necessary for any IIoT deployment. With a proper management UI, LoopEdge is a gateway software that enables the ability for data collection from almost all legacy industrial protocols and systems (PLCs, DCS, etc.) on the factory floor. LoopEdge also provides various applications that can be run locally over the collected data, for example Complex Event processing, local datastore and filtering, edge analytics, before then sending the data securely to Loop Cloud or 3rd party Cloud platforms.

PROSYST GATEWAY

SOFTWARE

ProSyst Gateway Software is a standard based cross-domain IoT middleware and allows for realizing complex IoT applications as well as open IoT ecosystems. It supports most of the known IoT protocols (Z-Wave, ZigBee, DECT, BLE, wMBUS, EnOcean, UPnP, KNX, X10, HomeMatic, Web Cameras, etc) out-of-the-box. The software is optimized for many JVMs and operating systems such as Linux, Android and includes integrated security and remote management capabilities.

TWINCAT IOT

With its TwinCAT IoT solution, Beckhoff supports standardised protocols for cloud communications and for sending push messages to smart devices. Quick and easy to configure, TwinCAT IoT provides a variety of functions for exchanging process data via widely-used communication protocols such as AMQP, MQTT, and OPC UA, and for accessing special data and communication services that belong either to public clouds or local systems.

VICINITY

VICINITY introduced the concept of virtual neighbourhood, where one can share the access to their smart objects without losing the control over them. A virtual neighbourhood will be a part of an IoT infrastructure that offers decentralised interoperability and will release the vendor locks that are present in the current IoT ecosystems.

VICINITY will be demonstrated during its project lifetime in the domains of Energy, Mobility, E-Health and Building Automation. However, the concept is directly applicable to other domains like e.g. Industry 4.0 as well.

INDOOR RTLS PLATFORM

IntraNav enables industry and consumers to locate "something" to a cm accuracy indoors where no GPS is available. Once one is able to exactly locate somethingindoors and comprehends the value of this "simple" X-Y-Z information, the applications and possibilities are endless. Today's indoor localization solutions are either inaccurate (BlueTooth / WiFi) or not really affordable for large scale solutions (Ultrasound / Optical).

BLUVISION RTLS

SOLUTION

Bluvision's disruptive RTLS solution leverages a combination of Bluetooth Low Energy [BLE] and Bluvision's proprietary location engine to determine the specific location of assets (equipment, inventory and people) in real-time. The solution can also showhistory, path and dwell-time analytics. By combining custom firmware on the beacons, gateways, and advanced algorithms on the cloud, Bluvision's RTLS solution is capable of providing accuracy greater than one-meter, even in large open environments with a lot of people, metal objects or RF noise. Bluvision's cloud-based solution does not require wired hardware, and can be installed quickly by plugging in the BluFi gateways, provisioning beacons through the cloud and attaching sensors/tags to the assets to be tracked.

WAGO - THE IOT

CONTROLLER

In just a few simple steps both WAGO PFC100 and PFC200 Controllers can be transformed into an IoT device - using a firmware upgrade and programming an IEC application with the corresponding library. After that, status information such as Run/Stop, connection statuses, device information and variables defined in the IEC program can be sent to a cloud and visualized, for example. The customer can decide whether the controller sends data to Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services or IBM Bluemix. Links to third-party solutions are also feasible in the future, thanks to the standardized MQTT protocol. The data is transmitted as JSON files and the link encrypted with TLS.

The vyzVoice platform provides all the features required to build custom applications for IoT suppliers, building equipment manufacturers and OEM. vyzVoice provides the complete backend of the application (data collection, big data storage, analytics, visualization) so equipment manufacturers can focus on their core expertise and speed-up commercialization time.

WISE-5231

Spectra offers with the IIoT gateway WISE-5231 a simple all-in-one solution. This gateway combines the functions of signal converter, MQTT gateway, data logger and controller in one device. On the way to the cloud, the user saves unnecessary intermediate steps over various hardware components. The effort to create a cloud solution is thus minimized. Analog and digital inputs / outputs are available in various combinations for the connection of sensors and actuators. When forwarding to cloud services, e.g. IBM Bluemix or MS Azure, the MQTT protocol is used. The use as a data logger is supported by an internal micro SD card that stores data up to 64 GB. They are dispatched by e-mail or FTP. A sophisticated IF-THEN-ELSE control system for time- or alarmbased control and alarm functions enables the execution of simple controller functions.

SPECTRA POWERBOX

100-IOT

The Spectra PowerBox 100-IoT is a cost-effective, compact industrial edge PC that brings the data from the process levels to the private or public cloud. It is equipped with an operating system designed for use in IIoT applications and the visual IIoT development tool Node-Red. The use of the Edge PC as the IIoT gateway provides high CPU performance and a variety of storage options, such as SSD, HDD or USB. Own programs or standard software for automation can be integrated as required for data preprocessing, consolidation or compaction and can be executed locally. This distinguishes the universal edge PC from smaller, more specialized IoT controllers.
