West Dunbartonshire Libraries ‘CRACKIN' CRITS!’
The aim of this project is the development of children’s literary and literacy skills in a fun and innovative way with the experience of meeting with an author/illustrator, enhancing questioning techniques and encouraging children to reflect on a broad range of books and illustration. Children’s communication, collaborative working and critical thinking skills are developed in the dynamic, real-life context of author and illustrator sessions delivered in their local library.

Each of the writers completes two sessions on separate dates in one of West Dunbartonshire’s 10 local libraries All primary schools are invited to take part.
Each writer presents a basic author session i.e. talking about their books, their method of writing, how the book is created e.g. illustration etc The second session involves the class returning to the library and interviewing the author with questions prepared in the intervening week by the teacher and pupils. The interview is then videoed and the DVD forwarded to the school. After the interview the children write up short critiques which are in the form of a short paragraph or illustrative comment.
The childrens’ Crits, drawings and photographs will then be forwarded to the Scottish Book Trust for use on the website and will be made available on GLOW
