Analysis of Lorde’s Pure Heroine promotion poster In this promotional poster, there is a long shot of Lorde (unlike her album as there is no image of her on her album cover) this allows the audience to see who she is and how she looks in a photoshoot setting, exclusive to this poster, which is a marketing technique. Her hair is down and flowing in this image, conforming to the stereotype of female pop music being girly and feminine. However this stereotype is then overpowered by the heavy use of black in her costume, possibly depicting how she is an individual in the music industry and wants to be seen as different, and rebellious (which she is). Her facial expression is serious and quite edgy with how she is looking directly into the lens of the camera, giving a piercing image. Her dark lipstick again reflects the idea of her being different and even eccentric. The necklace is an old fashioned style necklace, possibly slightly vintage juxtaposing her music which is mostly electronically made and modern. The white background with little idea of location gives the poster a feel of mystery, matching to her album cover which is plain black except her name and the album title itself. The poster is clearly highlighting the fact of where the tour will be, as it is in a bold red text contrasting with the black bold text which surrounds the image and the subject, Lorde. Her name is printed in large black letters along the primary optical area and the events are listed in the terminal area, giving either importance of different kinds. The black ‘camera’ lines on the poster, almost make the poster seem as if the whole shot hasn’t gone through editing and adding a text overlay, which is unusual for a poster, alluding to Lorde’s individuality. Finally in terms of technical codes, the camera use is that of a long shot as we can only see her upper torso, but can also see her facial expressions, giving the poster a more personal feel to the blank album.
