World Religions Seminar NEW "The Catholic Church wants to enter a dialogue with the religions of the world…. ...religion must not be a pretext for conflict.... ...the peoples of all faiths must shun the path of isolation and division." Pope John Paul ll at a mass in India, 1999 “Not only Christianity, but also the world religions are aware of man's alienation, enslavement, need of redemption…. Not only Christianity, but also the world religions perceive the goodness, mercy and graciousness of the Divinity….. At the same time we are aware that our various religions and ethical traditions often offer very different bases for what is helpful and what is unhelpful for men and women….” Hans Küng In the World Religions Seminar….. You’ll find out what all these symbols mean: You’ll get answers to these questions: Do Buddhists worship the Buddha? How did medieval Zen masters react when they heard quotes from Jesus for the first time? Who are the Sufis and how do they compare to “ordinary” Moslems? What made Krishna such a revered figure in India? When movies about Jesus are produced in the Moslem world, why will they not show his face on camera? How is it that many Hindus accept that Jesus is God Incarnate, but still don’t convert to Christianity? How are Catholics viewed by people in the world religions? What do leading theologians say about the validity (or invalidity) of other religions, and why? You’ll hear numerous parables and stories that have inspired millions, but are not taught in catechism or “Bible School”. And perhaps most importantly: You’ll get to ask whatever questions you have about the major world religions. The facilitator, Tim Musgrove, holds a PhD and has taught World Religions courses at several colleges and universities.
