WORKSHOP #2 – VOLLEYBALL AND MATHEMATICS Volleyball is a team sport, in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. The game was created on February 9, 1895, in Holyoke, Massachusetts (USA), by William G. Morgan, a physical education teacher. The sport was officially included in the program of the 1964 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, Japan. THE VOLLEYBALL COURT EXERCISE 1: The students discover that the court has a rectangular shape. They measure and write down the length of every parallel line. EXERCISE 2: The students calculate the total area of the court and the area of each side. They compare the surface area of the defense zone to the area of the attack zone. EXERCISE 3: The students divide the court into 6 pieces and take cover their personal space. They become familiar with the movement in their personal area and the clockwise rotation.

WORKSHOP #2 – VOLLEYBALL AND MATHEMATICS

THE VOLLEYBALL COURT

EXERCISE 4: The students create a new half-size volleyball court and they are exercised in an educational game. They play altogether simultaneously in the four courts.
