Practice II - Class 10th June, 2014

Why do we observe?

We observe in order to become familiar with the teaching environment, the different ways of delivering a class, the possible problems that may arise and the solutions that could be given to each of them. Besides, observing is the first contact we have with schools and children which proves beneficial to our development as future teachers.

It is the field of our profession → it will give us data Observing will enable us as trainees to put theory into practice (experiential learning

can only come from schools). Reflection is what will allow us to see the connection between theory and practice.

What do we observe?

Classroom management (teacher) Resources used Attitudes (students towards the learning process) Kind of lesson planning that the teacher has produced → balance on macroskills? Children integration Institution → certain atmosphere Disruptive behavior Seating arrangement (always the same? Or is it varied?) Timing Instructions Language used How the teacher motivates students Is there output? Do students produce something? What methodology is the teacher using? Projects?(what type, how many classes?)

TBL? CLIL? Traditional? (presentation, practice, production?) Which are the school rules?

- As trainees we need to get involved with the institution and the three following points will be important during our observation and practices:

Create didactic resources Overcome Difficulties

Participate from school activities

Anne Marie Chartier – History of education (video)

Gain real insight.

Ethnographies

Methodology → Dispositivos D.A.C → very time consuming / FLINT / COLT Report cards → have a look at what it says in foreign language

Research rarely reaches schools.

School tradition – Socio-cultural context

June 30th → Narrative through Penzu = Synthesis of what we have observed in the classes, retrieving concepts from the theory.

Reflective practice model of professional educational development (Michael)
