Who were the main target audience?

During the research and planning process, I completed a PowerPoint, detailing the presumed target audience, based on the film genre, age, social status, and preference for a mass or niche audience. The creation of a target audience PowerPoint also allowed me to configure the codes and conventions of the film, which would add extra effect through the aspect of familiarity.

Who were the main target audience?

• My group and I concluded that the best decision was to reach out to a mass audience. This is because the audience scale would be larger than that of a niche audience, and the film would receive more feedback. As well as this, the group aimed to include as many typical codes and conventions as possible. We as a collective also decided in the controversial decision to not include any female characters. This in itself relates to the common stereotype that the male gender is more intimidating and forceful.

Did you media product maintain the presumed target audience?

• By the time the film production had been completed, the intended target audience was still maintained, in the sense that the age range was rather wide scale, and the common conventions were included to appeal to a wider audience scale The social status was also emphasized by the inclusion of only male characters. This however may have restricted the target audience size, due to the lack of female involvement.

Codes and Conventions?

• An admirable array of codes and conventions related to the horror genre were included within the respective film production. Specific camera shot types (close up), props (knife). The prop creates an overall theme for the film, as the introduction of the knife foreshadows later events. The way in which it is held also helps connote the personality of the character. To add, the aspect of scare factor was included as a result. This was in order to create the most relevant atmosphere possible.

• Furthermore, the primary antagonist possess a sense of identity, due to the specific costume (Relates to the film title; Bowler and is also an example of mise-en-scene).
