Standard and Specialized PigsMaintaining a legacy of pipeline pig success

Weatherford’s Pipeline & Specialty Services group, through its Kopp heritage, has nearly 40 years experience in manufacturing and deploying pipeline pigs—setting standards in pipeline cleaning, inspection and maintenance. We offer an extensive range of high-quality, reliable pigs, either off-the-shelf or custom-designed to meet your specific requirements.

Our pigs are available around the world and applicable to onshore and offshore, shallow and deepwater, industrial and municipal, single-phase and multiphase, and multidiameter pipeline applications.

Our pigs are constructed of highly wear-resistant polyurethane material and incorporate innovative design features to maximize flexibility and reliability over a wide range of cleaning tasks.

All pigs are manufactured in our facility, which is certified to ISO 9001:2000, OHSAS 18001 and OHSAS 14001. The performance of each pig is analyzed in our test facilities to ensure your satisfaction. Our pigs are also available to meet the ATEX requirement for surface resistance of < 1 GΩ.

Why pig your pipeline?

Pigging is essential to maintaining and improving line flow rates, avoiding expensive blockage repair, inhibiting corrosion and facilitating more accurate in-line inspection runs.

Whether your need is for conventional or specialized pigs, Weatherford has the necessary components to meet the needs of the industry. In this image, a customized gel-cleaning pig train is illustrated to show the structural design of the train in which the bidirectional and brush scraper pigs remove debris from the pipe wall as they pass through the line. Highly viscous pickup gel collects and transports the loose debris to the receiver. A separator gel protects the pickup gel and reduces any forward bypass of liquids.

Bi-di pigs are the mainstay of our Kopp pig line. These tough, versatile pigs offer remarkable efficiency and reliability under demanding field conditions. These pigs are based on a proven modular design with interchangeable components that enable bi-di pigs to be quickly adapted to any task. After completing a pressure-testing run, a bi-di pig can be left in the receiving trap, ready to be used during dewatering operations in reverse direction.

Discs ranging from 2 to 60 in. can be fitted to the same type of body so that you can use the bi-di pig in a wide range of pipelines.

You can use bi-di pigs during many maintenance, precommissioning and rehabilitation operations, including cleaning, filling, batching, dewatering and drying.

Standard Pigs Offering a range of options for almost any condition

Weatherford manufactures a standard range of pigs, including bidirectional (bi-di) pigs, cup pigs and poly/foam pigs. Each pig has several options available to meet your specific needs.

Cup pigs are built on the same body as the bi-di pigs and are equipped with cups of abrasion-resistant polyurethane. These cups are considerably more flexible than normal discs and have a lower contact pressure, making them ideal for long-distance pigging runs in which wear is a consideration, such as during the commissioning of dry pipelines and the separation of different media.

Poly/foam pigs have a flexible, bullet-shaped body with a sealed, concave base. This coated base prevents the propulsion media from passing through the open cell foam. These pigs have several options, including a bi-di version, wear-resistant coating and brush stripes. You can use poly/foam pigs for cleaning and drying pipelines. The simple design means no need for special pig traps.

In addition to our featured pigs, we offer a range of other pigs.

Other standard pigs:

• Polykast pigs

• Sphere pigs

• Flex-I-pigs

Other specialized pigs:

• Tandem/dual-module pigs

• Triple-module pigs

• Bypass pigs

• Pressure bypass pigs

• Adjustable bypass pigs

Dual-diameter and multidiameter pigs are available for a wide-range of pipe sizes and can be custom-built for even more choices. These pigs provide innovative pigging solutions to challenging pipeline diameter configurations.

Contour pigs and gauging pigs can help to determine certain pipe characteristics. Contour pigs can determine the minimum bend radius in pipes, while gauging pigs are used to proof a pipeline’s minimum bore.

Specialized Pigs Tackling tough environments with specialized pigs

Pipeline conditions vary dramatically from site to site, and even within the same well. To meet those challenges, Weatherford also offers specialized Kopp pigs.

We manufacture a range of specialized pigs capable of meeting the most demanding of applications. Like our standard pigs, these specialized pigs undergo the same manufacturing processes and rigorous testing.

Our range of specialized pigs includes:

• Dual-diameter and multidiameter

• Contour

• Gauging

• D-Scaling

• D-Waxing

D-Waxing pigs are designed to remove wax and paraffin deposits from the pipe wall. Like the D-Scaling pigs, the D-Waxing pigs consist of a tractor module and two cleaning modules.

The cleaning modules consist of heavy-duty polyurethane cups that have an OD significantly smaller than the ID of the pipeline.

Each cup is fitted with an appropriate number of brushes to provide circumferential coverage to cut into the accumulated wax deposits and shear them off. The OD of any two opposing brushes is slightly larger than the ID of the pipeline so that the brushes are pressed against the pipeline wall under a load, ensuring that the brushes are better able to break up the wax deposits. This brush configuration helps to prevent rotation of the pig.

D-Scaling pigs are designed to remove hard deposits, such as calcium carbonate, from the pipe wall. The pigs consist of a tractor module at the front equipped with highly wear-resistant polyurethane cups and two cleaning modules equipped with studs.

Couplings join all three modules, and the tractor module drives the coupled pig.

The cleaning modules consist of heavy-duty polyurethane cups with an OD significantly smaller than the ID of the pipeline. Each cup is fitted with steel studs capped with balls designed to prevent damage to the pipeline walls. The balls are made of highly wear-resistant tungsten carbide steel; and the diameter across any two opposite studs is greater than the ID of the pipeline. This design ensures that the balls are pressed against the pipeline wall under a load and work to better break up the deposits.
