o Primary-

o Secondary-• Biological matter are converted to solid

masses by using water-borne bacteria .

o Tertiary-• Biological solids are neutralized then disposed, and

treated water may be disinfected by using suitable

method .

Filtration:-

Media filters are often constructed using one or more layers of sand , gravel ,

anthracite and other inert media .

Suspended particals are trapped within the filter .

The top layer removes organic compound which contribute to taste

and odor .

Rest are trapped in pore spaces .

It can be pressure driven or dependent on electrical potential gradients, concentration

gradients or driving forces.

It includes microfiltration(MF) & ultrafiltration(UF), nanofiltration(NF) & reverse

osmosis(RO)

It cut offs those molecular weight which ranges from 100-500 Daltons .

It remove solid matter .

Used in dialysis.

Requires frequent replacement of filter .

Page 10: Wastewater Management

It is the combination of coarse filtration with membrane filtration

processes offer ease of operation and optimize the benefits of both

types of filtration systems. It allows replacing the used filter without having to shut off the water inlet port.

The carbon blocks and the granulated are used for removing odor, chlorine,

colour, protozoa and organic contaminants .

The zinc and copper alloy removes chlorine & heavy metals from water which

reduces bacteria.

The calcite neutralises the pH .

Page 11: Wastewater Management

Disinfection System:- It deactivates pathogens .

The common disinfects include chloramine or chlorine dioxide .

It also uses other oxidants such as ozone and UV radiation .

Page 12: Wastewater Management

Combined Filtration & Disinfection System:-

Ultra-Violet radiation treatment system .

Cryptospordium is removed , by passing through the bed of zeolite .

The portable water filtration device also includes a battery unit connectable to an AC power

source .

Page 13: Wastewater Management

Dechlorination System:-

It discloses a process for removing strong oxidising agents from liquids.

It processes substantially reduces chlorine concentration in water .

UV radiation of the input stream to reduce the first chlorine concentration by about

76% to about 82%.

Divide into two categories as cationic & ananonic resins .

It takes place between two solutions with different ionic concentration .

The ionic exchange technologies currently available for the softening &

demineralisation of water for industrial use involve a cyclic process consisting of a

production phase during which the exchanging resins are regenerated .

Filters are used in fuel shells .

The devised system also allows replacement of ion exchange filter .

Ion Exchange & Sorption:-

Page 15: Wastewater Management

Activated Carbon System:- It is produced from a variety of carbon containing raw materials.

Inter molecular attractions cause condensation of adsorbate gasses .

The bed of activated carbon is exposed to a source of molecular oxygen and is controlled

within a temperature range .

This technique has widespread application for the controlled destruction of organic

vapours and liquids.

Save landfill space .

Sludge Disposal:- Superheat sludge and convert into small granules that are rich in

nitrogen

Sell it to local farmer as fertilizer Spread sludge cake on the field .
