▪ Conflict Between Doubt & Faith (Science & Religion).▪ Middle Class People of Europe began to Doubt what is
written in the Book of Genesis about the Creation of Everything, after the Publication of Darwin's Theory of Evolution in His Book On the Origin of Species.
▪ New Inventions of Science were Making People More Mechanized.
▪ Longing for Escape from Labor.
Victorian Crisis in Lotos-Eaters
▪ Faith in Gods were fading away from the Heart of the Sailors as they wished to become careless about the others like the Gods do which reflects the Victorian Crisis.
"In the hollow Lotos land to live and lie reclined On the hills like Gods together, careless of mankind.“

▪ Argument against Industry reflects in the whole Poem and finally ends in the Last Line:
“O, rest ye, brother mariners, we will not wander more.”
Longing for Escape
▪ Tennyson was neither Optimistic like Browning nor Pessimistic like Arnold. He followed a Middle Ground.
