1. Read the passage first and try to understand the point of the

text. 2. Read the questions now to find out what the examiner wants

from you. Then read the passage again – try to figure out the meaning of unknown words by looking at the context (the sentences/paragraphs which surround the word).

3. Now, using the passage, answer the questions 4. REMEMBER the mark allocation is a guideline for the length of

your answers.

5. The questions generally move from “easier” questions to more “difficult” ones. Remember this when answering and control the time spent on questions and also the length of answers.

6. Give yourself enough time to answer all the questions –

if you come across a question that you cannot answer – move on and come back to it.

7. Look at the title of the passage, layout and the author’s

name – there may be questions related to this information.

8. Some questions may appear confusing e.g.

multiple choice or true/false but you simply need to look at the question, figure out the answer AND ONLY THEN look at the possible alternatives given.

9. Finally, make sure you have answered all the

questions.
