Crowdsourcing

Ο όρος crowdsourcing επινοήθηκε από τον Jeff hove το 2006 σε άρθρο* του στο περιοδικό Wired.

Λίγα χρόνια νωρίτερα είχε προηγηθεί το φαινόμενο του outsourcing στο χώρο των εταιρειών υψηλής τεχνολογίας: παραδοσιακές εταιρίες λογισμικού,

αντί να παράγουν οι ίδιες εφαρμογές αξιοποιώντας το δικό τους έμψυχο προσωπικό, ανέθεταν με

φασόν (out-sourcing) τη δημιουργία των προγραμμάτων σε προγραμματιστές από την Κίνα

ή την Ινδία, αγοράζοντας τα προγράμματα αυτά και τα πνευματικά τους δικαιώματα.

Παρατήρηση: Όπως παρατηρούμε και από το προηγούμενο λήμμα, τα διαφορετικά γλωσσικά εγχειρήματα της Wikipedia δεν αποτελούν απλές μεταφράσεις. Είναι ανεξάρτητα εγχειρήματα, που υποστηρίζονται από διαφορετικές κοινότητες χρηστών και που αναπτύσσουν διαφοροποιημένες τοπικές κουλτούρες συλλογικής δράσης, κάτω από μια κοινή παγκόσμια βικιπαιδική κουλτούρα

Τα νέα συμμετοχικά κοινωνικά μέσα στο διαδίκτυο προσφέρουν την τεχνολογική υποδομή για να συντονιστούν και να δράσουν από κοινού ένα μεγάλο πλήθος ανθρώπων. Συμμετέχοντες που πριν από τα social media θα ήταν εξαιρετικά δύσκολο να δικτυωθούν και να δράσουν μαζί και ταχύτατα. Σύμπλοκες συνδιαλλαγές και μαζικές συνέργειες διευκολύνονται στον κυβερνοχώρο. English version (there are 282 language versions) of Wikipedia is sized, if printed, 1575 volumes, 25 cm tall, 5 cm thick (equivalent

to Britannica’s size) and containing 3.736.024 articles total (Wikipedia, 2011b). Wikipedia (only the English version) is authored and maintained by total of 15.281.656 unpaid

registered users, 1.525 unpaid administrators (elected by the community of users) and many others contributing anonymously

(without registering). Britannica, a famous commercial encyclopaedia, is sized 32 volumes and contains over 65.000

articles (Britannica, 2011). Britannica is authored by more than 4000 recognized expert contributors. Comparison of Wikipedia

information for students in the internet. Wikipedia is on top of nearly every Google search result.

College students use Wikipedia for course-related research in combination with other information resources such as course readings and Google search results (Head & Eisenberg, 2010; Head & Eisenberg, 2009).

Wikipedia is a unique and valuable student resource especially for obtaining a basic understanding of a topic and get an idea about its context (Head & Eisenberg, 2009).

Many instructors integrate Wikipedia as a learning tool into university courses (Associated Press, 2007).
