LEARNING AREAS AND DESCRIPTION

Core curriculum are as described in DepED Order No. 31, s. 2012

Eight (8) learning areas of the core curriculum namely Filipino, English, Science, Mathematics, Araling Panlipunan (AP), Technology and Livelihood Education, Music, Art, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) and Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (EsP)

SCIENCE – GRADE 7

The course deals with the basic concepts in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth & Space Science. Every quarter presents a different science discipline across grade levels in increasing level of complexity and sophistication. The course is focused on the development of awareness and understanding of practical everyday problems that affect the learners’ lives and those around them.

SPECIAL SCIENCE CURRICULUM

Core curriculum based on the K to 12 Basic Program from Grade 7 to Grade 10 except for Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) which shall be replaced by advanced Science subjects

May be further enriched by offering other Science subjects on top of the additional subjects, provided that the requirements of the core curriculum and the Special Program are met

ADVANCED SCIENCE SUBJECTS

Environmental ScienceThe course is designed to introduce students to major

environmental concepts and problems that affect the world in which we live in. It provides students the opportunity to enhance their awareness of the interactions of people and their environment and to focus on the application of concepts to real-life issues in order to promote understanding of practical everyday problems that affect their lives and their families.

Further, this course deals with the evaluation of the relative risks associated with environmental problems and the examination of alternative solutions for resolving or preventing them based on the principle of conservation for sustainable development.

ADVANCED SCIENCE SUBJECTS

Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

The course is designed to equip students with adequate knowledge necessary to the understanding and appreciation of computers as data processing tools and of the fundamental concepts of electronic data processing. It covers concepts of computer-based information and data processing including introduction to computer concepts, operating systems, file storage and management, office application, internet and webpage design.

TIME ALLOTMENT

Core subjects as stipulated in DepED Order No. 31, s. 2012 shall be strictly implemented

Advanced subjects for Grade 7 namely: Environmental Science and ICT shall each be allocated 4 hours per week

Personal Services (PS) and regular Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE)

Subsidy in the form of a nationwide lump-sum from its annual appropriations

No school shall be awarded additional financial support without an approved three-year School Improvement Plan (SIP) where improvement of student performance in Science and Mathematics education shall be a major component.

To provide S & T- ESEP high schools with financial assistance to undertake activities that focus on the improvement of educational delivery and standards compliance1. Develop in the school a culture of development and a

climate of research2. Provide an avenue for both teachers and students to

undertake challenging and authentic activities that will develop their creativity, inquiry skills and analytical thinking and integrity

3. Set up a mechanism that will provide resources to enhance educational delivery

PURPOSE OF SUBSIDY

Objects of Expenditure]1. Supplies and materials to support the conduct

of science investigatory projects including procurement of chemicals and other materials needed in the laboratory

2. Rentals for and payment for laboratory tests (e.g. Boiler Test & DNA Test) to support students’ researches/projects by authorized agencies and/or the use of equipment, spaces (computer/science laboratories), transport, etc.

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF EXPENDITURES UNDER THE SUBSIDY

3. Subscription expenses to cover the cost for the procurement of print and non-print instructional materials in Science and Mathematics such as reference materials and professional books and of subscription to library and other reading materials

4. Repair and maintenance to include expenditures for the minor repair and maintenance of science laboratories and existing science equipment

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF EXPENDITURES UNDER THE SUBSIDY

5. Professional Development/Training of Science and Mathematics teachers including attendance in Science and Mathematics related-seminars sponsored or authorized by DepED and payment of tuition and miscellaneous expenses of teachers enrolled in science or mathematics-related graduate programs

SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF EXPENDITURES UNDER THE SUBSIDY

Management and disbursement of the funds shall be the responsibility of the School Head of the proponent-schools.

Disbursement of the funds shall be subject to the usual government accounting and auditing rules and procedures.

Subsidy shall be released through a Sub-ARO direct to the proponents or through the Division Offices by the Budget Division, FMS, DepED Central Office.

MANAGEMENT & DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS

Division Offices shall require the recipient-schools to submit their physical and financial accomplishment report on the use of the 2012 subsidy three (3) months after the receipt of the Sub-ARO, copy furnished the Regional Office and the Bureau of Secondary Education.
