What are laws ? How laws are changed and why? Are laws same for all ? Please tell me about it.

study about law briefly.

In this chapter we will learn about:

Do laws apply to all?

How do new laws come about?

Unpopular and controversial laws

What should we as citizens do under such circumstances?

What does rule of law means?

Control as per the law.OR

Governing as per the law.

We will discuss all the points one-by-one .

Do laws apply to all? Yes, all are equal before law.

The law cannot discriminate anyone on basis of religion, caste and gender.

If he/she is rich, poor, minister, president . He/She is equal before law.

Because of ‘SEDITION act’ of 1870 , Indian nationalists forced britishers to include equalityAnd ideas of justice into set of rules.

Like this today also every year new laws are passed.

Now question is raised How do people come to think and propose that a new law is necessary?

How do new laws come about?

When problems are faced by people they raise the need for a particular law through media like TV channels, newspapers.

The citizens play a crucial role in coming of a new law.

What is the procedure of coming of a new law ?

When people feel there is a need of law they go to an organization.

Then several organizations discuss on the complaint and then prepare a draft of laws.

The draft is then sent to minister. He introduces the law . Then voting of several ministers of Lok sabha takes place.

What is the procedure of coming of a new law ?

If it is approved by Lok sabha , it is send to committee 1 for further procedures.

Also if it is getting approval by committee 1 . It is then sent to Rajya sabha , here ministers vote again.

What is the procedure of coming of a new law ?

Approved bill is sent to committee 2 . After approval , it goes to President and if President approves it . Then , the new law is introduced in society.

Unpopular and controversial law:

Parliament passes new laws every year that may be UNPOPULAR

Controversial law : Some of this laws may be unacceptable to people because they could feel Law as unfair and harmful . So , they might criticise this law and when a large number of people criticise a law, it changes. If any law is not in favour of any group & ignores the other, it is controversial law.

As, citizens play crucial role in electing their representatives .They also play a crucial role in helping parliament perform its representative functioning properly.

So , citizens of a democratic country like India must be aware of their rights.
