UNC Capital Markets Certificate
The online certification program includes three courses designed to prepare and position students and working professionals for success in the financial services industry:
Course 1: Introduction to Capital Markets
Course 2: Fixed Income Markets Course 3: Foreign Exchange Markets
Each of the three courses takes an average of 20 hours to complete (five hours per week for each four-week course). Students will spend approximately 70 to 90 hours to complete the entire UNC certification program, including preparation for the final exam.

Course 1: Introduction to Capital MarketsStudents will develop an understanding of how capital markets are organized, the roles of key players and the mechanics of financial products – including stocks, bonds and options – that are needed to make informed investment decisions.

Shelly LombardSpent more than two decades on Wall Street working at some of the world’s preeminent financial institutions, including Barclays, Citi, Drexel Burhnam Lambert, and Chase Manhattan Bank.

Course 2: Fixed Income MarketsStudents will develop an understanding of how the primary bond markets are organized and the roles of key players, learn the primary uses of money market products and bonds, and develop an understanding of new bond issues.

Course 2: FacultyGreg BrownSarah Graham Kenan Distinguished Scholar and Professor of Finance at UNC Kenan Flagler, where he teaches corporate finance, financial derivatives and macroeconomics. His research centers on financial risk and the use of financial derivative contracts as risk management tools. He also studies private investment strategies, such as hedge funds and private equity.

Course 3: Foreign Exchange (FX) MarketsStudents will learn essential FX trading terminology and develop an understanding of regulations, market instruments and the mechanics and uses of FX derivatives, as well as valuation techniques.

Course 3: FacultyChristian LundbladEdward M. O’Herron Distinguished Scholar and Professor of Finance at the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. His research spans asset pricing and international finance, with a specialization in emerging market development. Dr. Lundblad served as a financial economist at the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C., where he advised the Board of Governors on international financial market developments.

All of the three courses count as 60% of the overall program grade. The final exam incorporates content from each of the three courses and counts as the remaining 40% of the grade.
The online curriculum provides a highly interactive learning experience to maximize knowledge retention: Quizzes (both practice and graded weekly) Graded final course exercises Discussion boards Weekly live sessions with learners and instructors (recorded for
review later as well)
