What is Twitter?Old Definition

“A social networking and microblogging service that allows you to answer the question, ‘What are you doing?’ by sending short text messages 140 characters in length, called ‘tweets’, to your friends, or ‘followers.’”

New Definition“Twitter is a real-time information network that connects you to the latest information about what you find interesting.”

Why has it changed?Nobody cares what you’re doing!

The Dos & Don’ts of Twitter

• Don’t follow a bunch of people and expect them to follow you back

• Don’t leave your your bio empty or fill it with nonsense

• Don’t automate DMs or schedule too many tweets at one time

• Don’t use irrelevant or generic hashtags to get your post included in a search

• Don’t be afraid to talk to professionals/people you don’t know in person

• Do follow interesting people and RT or reply to them

• Do fill out your bio with interests and things you will tweet about

• Do send personal DMs and humanize everything you do

• Do use hashtags for Twitter chats and to focus on a specific event or group of people

• Do talk to and interact with everyone!
