What is Twitter ?
Twitter is also a messaging service much like things you already use on a daily basis. It is like email, texting, blogging all wrapped up into one. The major difference is everything is done 140 characters at a time.
Twitter is also public, and like blog posts you don’t need to give other people permission to read what you have written or “tweeted”.

What is Twitter ?
People conversely can choose who they receive messages or “tweets” from and this is called following. Being interesting is important or nobody will follow your updates.
Twitter is not just about being followed, however, it’s more about listening, engaging, conversing and the sharing of information.

People are unlikely to follow you on Twitter if you have no picture or logo posted. People will think you are spam using the default Twitter logo.

What’s in it for you?
Twitter will take a little time to get used to, but once you get used to it, it will become second nature like text and instant messaging. It also does not require a staff to oversee.
You get back from Twitter what you put into it, like everything else. You reap what you sow. So if you spend a half hour a day reading, posting and re-tweeting messages to followers, you will gradually increase your followers, find new followers that find you interesting and your audience will grow.

What’s in it for you?
Re-tweeting ? did I lose you?
Re-tweeting is the unselfish act of repeating someone else’s tweet to your followers. In essence you are saying I liked what this person tweeted (blog, saying, quote etc.) and you give it value. You personalize it and say, that is the good stuff right there.
Being re-tweeted is great also. When another person finds value in something you tweeted it exposes your thoughts to his or her group of followers, again with the notion that you share the good stuff.

What’s in it for you?
Search for your company name periodically to see what other people are saying about your company or brand. What are they saying? Can you learn from what they are saying?
Talking about your company on Twitter is fine

What’s in it for you?
Tweet about other things that people might be interested in. Link to a blog article you read. Tell them why you found it interesting. Give people information that will make their lives easier. Tweet a link to a recipe, a restaurant or a movie review you wrote. Tweet about things happening in your industry that may help others.
Check Twitter trends, find out what other people are talking about and add value to the conversation.

What’s in it for you?
If you have Google analytics installed on your website and you have a link to your website on your Twitter page you will see traffic generated to your website. People like to buy from people they like and people they feel they know. Twitter allows you to connectwith potential customers and clients in a whole different way.
Twitter creates “ambient intimacy” - Lisa Reichelt @leisa or a lightweight but meaningful connection. (Facebook)
