Page 1: Todays Market & Further Discussion

Meetings so Far:

Towrds the start-up of PAJ productions we went through a stage of exploring different genres of films and had to come to the important conclusion of what our 2 minute short film would categorize as. Noticeably, we chose action gang /crime as we personally felt that we knew best of thhis genre. We discussed today's market and how we had watched several movies around gang crime that would enhance our development of making our short film. Josh and Patrick had more knowledge of gang crime films as it was more on a interest. Personally, I also had a small involvement in action genre and watching gang crime films. But I understood the wider context of action films as my interest slay more in films such as The Avengers, no so much 'This Is England' and 'Straight Outta Compton'.

Action films are much more quick and snappy within the shots. We also realised it needed a lot of tense moments and needed focusing on more to build into a climax. We needed to keep in mind our audience and what they would expect for a gang crime film and this lead us to then consider what films we have watched as a group; and how we could apply some of these techniques to our own short film.

Today's Market

Todays market is full of gang crime but the films we did realise that was in market around this year was Legend and Straight Outta Compton. One being a british based film and one being more exaggerated and based in America. Nevertheless, both involved violence, gangs, crime and all other considerable aspects to do with thhis sort of action. Straight Outta Compton is basically about a few young lads who were brought up in a rough area going through conflicts of rough life, poverty, surrounding violence (that they couldn't necessarily escape). But they got out of this by coming together after conflicts and deliberations to become performers. And to better themselevs within their lives. The film released in late 2015 outlining the main African-Americans who suffered violence and exposed to gang crime that caused problematic and ongoing issues for each and every one of them. The story looks at each individual story. Guns, knives, music etc. was involved which inspired us to create and craft our own short film on a more home based short film; similar to this! We chose a more local area of B37 because it was more personal, therefore we could express our knowledge and personal views of what life is like in an area like ours. Instead of other places that get noticed more.

Legend is a story based on the infamous and notorious Cray twins who are just plain boners. Going around causing havoc without being caught by the police. One twin is considered to be more insane and is broken out of an insane asylum to go along with his twin to stand with pride alongside their high status over the law. This, again, inspired us to think more into the crazy gang crime. Our names that ironically are made; Hugz and Smiles potentially follow the strange exploration of gang crime. These names are misleading, however it's the element of surprise (like Andrew Hendry said) that could grab the attention of our 16-40 primary audience!
