Contractual

Definition: This brief is created by the client and employee. In this brief type it will name the requirements of the video that the creator will have to meet and then there will be the payment stated as well.

Advantages: The company knows exactly what they want within a certain time limit and there is normally full terms and conditions which the video creators would have to sign.

Disadvantages: Once the contract has been signed if you do not meet the deadline legal action can be taken.

Negotiated

Definition: This brief type is when specified agreement is made between the client and employer. It is very important that the brief it too both of the client and employers likings otherwise it could cause problems in the future.

Advantages: This is were both group are work together to come up with a brief. This will also mean later down there line there will less likely be fights over legal issues.

Disadvantages: There could be disagreements which could mean losing potential work and could take longer to do

Formal

Definition: This brief is formally written including detailed information that the clients wants the creators to achieve. This is normally quite a straight forward document and that it may not be always classed as legal document.

Advantage's: this type is always made as clear as possible. Sometime there is not a legal document but there can be ways to work around a contract.

Disadvantages: This is contract type is quite general. There could be some disagreements on the terms with decisions within the contract.

Informal

Definition: This brief is not too professional than the more traditional brief . Both client and employer will come to an agreement on the details on the contract.

Advantages: There is no real guide to the brief and it’s free to move around with ideas before the client confirms it.

Disadvantages: The client could interfere and make the work so hard that it could make the worker disinterested and the could move on to another company or not pay the them for creating them a video.

Commission

Definition: This brief type is when a corporation employs a company to make a product for them. It also is between two companies along with an external who could also receive the product once established.

Advantages: The company that makes a product will be paid and then may receive part of the profit once published to the target audience.

Disadvantages: They people who the product is made for may not give the people who made it enough money for the hard work. If the people who have created the product complain about the company who it was made for they could lose work in the future.

Tender

Definition: This brief is when a client will make a advert starting on a product. Companies will come up a come up with brief, budget and a proposal which then is pitched in order to secure the chance in getting the job. The client will choose the strongest proposal from the company that chosen.

Advantages: This sort of brief will be will be advertised so loads of people can pitch there idea and make a bigger effort to work harder for there video to be chosen then the income after one has been chosen.

Disadvantages: Due to it being in a competition style the groups that don’t get their video chosen may become dishearten by another company winning.

Corporative

Definition: This brief is where a few companies are employed to work on a set brief which they will have to work as a team . They will have to meet the deadline otherwise the client will not be happy and in the future will not go back to them for more jobs.

Advantages: there is more than one perspective on the video as you are working in a team. This also means different ideas will be passed around which mean the highest quality of work will be produce.

Disadvantages: The could be disagreements within the team on the brief and how each individual may determine it.

Competition

Definition: This brief type is created to be accessed by all production companies which choose take part in creating a video. Each company will create their own briefs. Once the product is complete all videos will be judged and the video that is crowned winner will be taken into the clients hands for publication.

Advantages: There will be a lot of competitions just like the tender brief . You will have to behave in a professional manner and impress the people who you are pitching to which could end in you getting the job. This does give you the experience so if you don’t winner you know how to it better next time.

Disadvantages: generally this brief is fee to participate in but only the winner and runners up will gain payment for their work but the winner could be unhappy with how much they would get paid.
