• Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto is engaged in a review of the current MD program.• A change would involve replacing the current form of transcription, Honours/Pass/Fail, with Credit/No Credit. • To gauge the support of the student body for change a referendum sponsored by the Faculty To gauge the support of the student body for change a referendum sponsored by the Faculty and the Medical Society was held the week of November 3rd to 7th. and the Medical Society was held the week of November 3rd to 7th. • All four years of the MD program and members of the MD/PhD program took part in the referendum.

Outcome
• The response from students was extraordinary with 84% of the entire student body participating in the referendum. • Of these respondents, 77% were in favour of a change to Credit/No Credit
Our Recommendation: There is sufficient imperative at this time to prompt a change in grade transcription. Students have demonstrated a clear and uniform desire for a change.

• Provided MedSoc a clear mandate to advocate for a change in the transcription of grades. • 580 of you were in favour of a change in transcription, while 166 were against the change. • Most importantly 756 (84%) students participated in the referendum. • Be proud of yourselves and your colleagues.

Long term ramifications
• Testament to your determination as students to play an active role your curriculum.
• Shown the Faculty that you care about your education.
• This referendum will usher in a new era of collaboration between the Faculty and student leaders, from members of the General Assembly to course/theme reps.
• In 2006, there was “insufficient imperative at this time to prompt a change in grading policy” – as noted by the HPF Task Force Report.
• However, in this referendum students have demonstrated a clear and uniform desire for a change.

• VP’s of Education will present results to the agenda committee of the FCC.• Should get the results added to the agenda of the next faculty curriculum committee meeting.• There results and the next steps will be discussed.

• If change occurs marks will not be changed retroactively.
• Faculty is cooperative in this initiative. Those involved in the referendum are optimistic about future outcomes.
