Some weeks ago we thought about the idea of making presentation for children. And we decided that the best book was one of our countrymen’s tales.

And we chose the fairy tale of Leonid

Kulikoff. The story was translated into two

languages: into Ukrainian (in 1979) and into Lithuanian (in 1981).

So we decided to make it in English too.

Leonid Kulikoff was born on the 7th of August, 1924 in the town of Ivanovo-Vosnesensk.In 1940 Leonid became ill. Since that time he had been a disabled person. He couldn’t move with his legs, he could only use his hands. Kulikoff and his family had been living in Kurgan region since 1941. In the village of Polovinnoe he began to write his first verses for children. In 1959 Kulikoff became the member of the Union of Soviet writers. The eleven books were published from 1951 till 1970, and some gramophone records with his poems and fairy tales were made by the firm “Melody”.Leonid Kulikoff died on the 7th of September in 1980.

Our Squirrel was a real Girl-Master – she made a blouse for the Fox, and slippers for the Hair, and baby’s loose jacket for the Bear, and some gloves for her babies, and even a red sun-dress for the Little Mouse. She dried mushrooms, she treated animals!

Oh, the SQUIRREL was a real MASTER!!!

One day a Crane came to her house. She cried and said: “My baby has just been born. And he’s caught a cold, because of the cold wind! And he is ill now!”
