Traditional vs 21st Century Learner

Sharing Experiences

• SLN- a hive of ideas• Trinity Group• Conferences and Day events• Twitter and Facebook• Blogging• Goodreads and LibraryThing

Slideshare

• A place to share slideshows which can be accessed anywhere

• You can gauge how many people see your slideshow to measure impact

• http://www.slideshare.net/carolineroche/ • Easiest way to embed slideshows in your blog• This powerpoint is uploaded here for you to

access later with links

Netvibes

• Netvibes is a good way of keeping you and your students up to date with what you want them to access

• Very little maintenance required

Crowdsourcing documents

• Google docs is a good way of crowdsourcing• Read Around the World booklist:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/17_Nag_Q9OkqhbvdAZ_ejbaciVyXz2FoVy0IF8t8pKxM/edit#heading=h.4etelfepsleu

• Files at SLN are often crowdsourced as well• New Browns VLEBooks crowdsourced wiki just

opened : http://vlebooksfirsttimers.wikia.com/wiki/VLEBooksFirstTimers_Wikia

Diigo

• A place to keep your bookmarks so they move with you, not tied to one computer

• You can create sharing groups – SLN has one on Diigo, and there is one for the EPQ

• You can share some of your list with others – see the link on Heart

• Good for Departments to share expertise• https://www.diigo.com/user/carolineroche

VoiceThread

• A great tool for commenting – especially visually

• Easy and free to use• See a Trinity one here:

http://voicethread.com/share/5784148/

Evernote

• https://www.evernote.com/• Evernote can be used on phone or computer

to keep electronic notes• Can use it to take photos and save them in

collaborative notebooks• When you go back to the webpage the date

and time are there for easy referencing

QR Codes – adding a layer

• Very easy to generate a code for free• Several sites – I used QR generator• http://www.qr-code-generator.com/• Apps are free for phones, and on all platforms.

I use QRReader and BeeTag• Have two – sometimes one won’t work with

certain codes but the other will

Uses for QR codes

• Adding information about books• Giving websites for revision, careers

documents, etc• Giving more information, such as directions• Link to student videos – ie pictures of DofE

expedition with pupils talking about the experience

• Interactive quiz with the codes hidden around the school/library

Aurasma – Virtual Reality

• Aurasma is similar to QR codes except it uses a picture to link to your content

• You can therefore use the photo of a book cover and link it to the content you want

• When a phone with the Aurasma (free) app is pointed at the object your content will be linked as in the QR code

• Aurasma will link to 3D technology as well so spiders will appear to walk across the page for instance.
