The Gift ofVisualizationAdding a little Extrato your TEDx event.

In this short presentation, we want to share a small twist that turned an obvious idea into something special.

Page 2: The Gift of Visualization

The idea to have a visualizer live-sketch the talks during the event originally came from one of our sponsors, actually.

As the drawing developed, it drew a lot of attention during the breaks. It also turned out to be a great conversation starter.

So, a huge success all around? Well, there was one little problem: We ended up with this huge piece of paper - and since we don't have any offices or other space to put it up for display, it's been sitting in a corner, unregarded, ever since. Which seemed like such a waste.

So for the next event, we had the same visualizer again. Only this time, we had him draw on canvases.

At the end of the event, we then gave these canvases to our speakers as a gift, so that they could take home their talks. So we had the same advantages as before (center of attraction, conversation starter) plus a great speaker gift.

Needs access to contentin advance

If you'd like to try this at your event, here are 3 simple tips to ensure the best results:1) Your visualizer will need access to the talk's contents in advance. So once you get slides, writeups or even rehearsal videos from your speakers, forward them to the visualizer so that they get a better idea of what's coming.

Test samplesof canvases

2) If you want to copy the idea with the canvases: buy a few samples of different canvases and send them to the visualizer to try them out with their preferred set of pens. Apparently, some canvases work better than others.

Line of sightbut not distracting

3) The visualizer will of course have to be able to see the speaker on the stage. But make sure to place them somewhere in the room where they don't distract the audience too much.

If you follow these tips, you'll not only make your audience happy but also your speakers. Most of our speakers have their talk proudly on display in their flats or offices now.
