Analyzing the Learner

• My 6th grade class consists of 21 students. There are 12 girls and 9 boys. Two of the students, one girl and one boy, have ADHD. One boy is handicapped and in a wheelchair.

Main Objective

• My students will explain what makes up the rights given to United States citizens in the First Amendment, as well as how it applies to them, by creating a Podcast, writing a post on the class Facebook page, making a Prezi presentation, finding an informative video on YouTube as well as creating a YouTube video, becoming active on a Twitter account, and designing a poster.

Day by Day • Monday: The students will explain the

different rights guaranteed by the First Amendment by listening to a Podcast and creating a post on the class Facebook page giving an example of the different freedoms and elaborating on what each of those freedoms mean to them.

• Tuesday: The students will be put into groups to evaluate the details of a right guaranteed by the First Amendment that is assigned to their group by creating a Prezi presentation.

• Wednesday: The students will utilize YouTube to find an informative video about the First Amendment, post a link to their video to their Twitter account, and by using the class hashtag, they will comment on two other classmates’ video choices.

• Thursday: The students will be put into groups to act out an example of using the First Amendment in their daily lives by creating a YouTube video acting out the use of these basic civil rights.

• Friday: The students will utilize their creativity by making a poster on The First Amendment in class.
