Characters

Grandfather{Mr. Abel}Mr. Abel is an easy going old man. A widower for some long time, hehas learnt the world and its multiple faces. He isa practical man yet a little given to drinking and jollity. Even at the age of seventy he isjovial and active. There isnothing that could stop him from his ways. He isproud of being Abel Merryweather. It has beena pain for him to accept the fact that he isjust a lot unwanted. When he saw infront of his eyes how much despised he was and how quarrelsome his daughters were and how cunningly they havehidden their hatred for him for long. Abel Merryweather was a man of his forebodings he appears to beiron hearted for a while in destroying his will and shameless in getting married at the age of seventy. Surprisingly, it is hard to see why this amiable old man was equally despised/hated by all his dear ones.

Amelia Slater was evil incarnated. The prime villain of the play, shehad been taking care of her father for his possessions. She had been looking after her father for the last three years and was just waiting for the most wonderful happening in his life his death. It is amazing that a daughter goes without any feeling for her fathers death. Not only that she didnt get a doctor for her fatheron finding him dead but also she left him to die there and went for her mourning costumes. It is the height of hypocrisy that she blames Victoria for being gallivanting while she was herself breathing the air of her fathers bereavement. Her pinching the bureau, the slippers and the clock are the least examples of her hardheartedness.

Mrs. Slater {Amelia}

Mr. Slater Henry Slater is the husband of Amelia. He a stooping heavy man with drooping moustache. He is wearing black tailcoat, grey trousers, a black tie & a bowlers hat .

Mrs. JordanMrs. Jordan is a stout and complacent woman. she is impassive and always has an irritating air around her. she is very witty and sharp. she holds the capacity to drive a hard bargain over things to gain possession. she is atoo greedy person who takes every opportunity to criticise the slaters and finally decides to take.

Mr. JordanBen is the husband of Mrs. Jordan. He is rather a jolly man, accustomed to be humorous, but at present trying to adapt himself to the regrettable occasion.

VictoriaVictoria Slater appears to be the only character in the story with a heart. She is not entirely innocent yet there are glimpses of goodness in her. She washappy to see her grandfather alive for some hazy reasons while it is she whom her mother blames for being gallivanting. If the mother, Amelia, were right in blaming her, Victoria too was a product of the same prototype. One thing is however certain that Victoria had a delicate heart that had soft and gentle feelings for her grandfather. She asks her parents, are we stealing them? which means she was not as evil as her mother nor as faceless as her father.

Let the story begin

Vicky asks her mother why were her uncle aunt were to come she tells her that they were coming as their grandfather was dead.

In the mean while, Henry arrives. Amelia asks her to change his slippers & wear the grandfathers new slippers as his own slippers were worn out

Then, Amelia asks Henry to go with her & bring down grandfathers bureau before the Jordans arrived as she always liked that bureau.

That were they snitching the bureau before the Jordans arrived. Henry anyhow explained her by saying that her grandfather gifted that bureau to her mother that morning.

Then they brought the grandfathers bureau down.

In the meanwhile the bell rings & the Jordans arrived.

They discussed about Grandfather. They also discussed about him that he had gone to pay his insurance premium in the morning they all were praising but the Vicky informed them he had not gone to pay his premium but was gone to ring-o-bells.

When they heard Vickys words they all became angry & started complaining of him.

They all then discussed about his belongings & started about who would get what of the old mans things.

Then slater asked Vicky to go up & bring the bureaus keys as they wanted to see his will.

Victoria goes up frightened & came back shouting grandpa is getting up, grandpa is getting up they were confused that what was Vicky saying. They saw grandfather coming down they all were frightened & asked him that was he all right ,he said yes.

Then the grandfather see Henry wearing his slippers & asked him about it.Amelia manages saying he was wearing to stretch them as they were new & hard.Suddenly Vicky comes & sit under his grandfathers feet & said that she was glad to see him alive.Slater then anyhow manages this also.

That as the Bens brother had died they were in mourning garments.

Abel then asked about his name.

Now, Abel saw his bureau down & asked why they have shifted it down.

Now, Jordans understood everything & they told to the grandfather whole story. Now to take revenge Amelia also told that why did they had their last quarrel.

Now the grandfather announced that he would give all his belongings to whom who would be with him when he would die Now they fought on that they would keep the grandfather.

Then the grandfather said them that :-
