Blockades ana *The definition of blockade is the isolation of a nation, area, city or harbor by hostile ships or forces in order to prevent the entrance and exit of traffic and commerce.* In April 1861, president lincoln proclaimed a blockade to all the southern ports in the U.S and the navy only had 42 ships to patrol 3,500 miles of Confederate coastline.* Under the orders of Secretary Gideon Welles, The navy built up its fleet, it included merchant ships, ferryboats, whalers and fishing boats.* In total at the end they had 500 ships that took part of the blockade.* Although of the North blockade the South managed to slip through it, depriving the confederacy of all the needed supplies.

Minie Ball ana*The Minie Ball is a type of muzzle-loading spin stabilized rifle bullet named after its developer, Claude- Etienne Minie.* In the civil war the rifled musket was created and was really used by both sides. It sent the bullet spinning as it headed towards the target.* The minni ball was a cylindrical bullet that was more easily loaded, even when the rifle was dirty and it was really accurate over long distances (400 yards)* This advances in they weapons allowed the soldiers to fight from greater distances from each other. This caused the battles to last longer and creating more casualties than in the previous conflicts.

The blockade change the battles because the north was stopping the sooth to get supplies but they find a way to get their supplies and win the war. The Minie Ball make the battles and the use of the rifles easier to this also help define the victory of the civil war. The photographs taken by Mathew brady had a enormous historical significance because you can still see this pictures and they were are really helpful way to record the battles and this tragic war. The last technology is the Submarines and they had also a enormous historical significance because with them the south was able to get past the blockade that the north put. Historical Significance of the UnionThe soldiers who fought all had different motivations but many were driven by the Union – to restore it. Many of the soldiers were volunteers but the Union made sure to support the soldiers as well as their families. This reveals that their manpower was vital to win the battle as men fight wars. Abraham Lincoln, the president at the time, had a “maniac intellect.” He prioritized military feats and fully wielded his authority by promoting and demoting officers, testing weapons and planning strategies. By working closely with enemies and frequently interacting with others, it helped create a positive, public opinion of him. This reveals his will to to anything in order to accomplish the goals he set for the betterment of America. During the War, The Republican Congress installed many major laws that shook the very foundations of the United States – improving many things such as the education system, their economy, the financial and land system.
