Google Sketchup is a tool which you can use to create models. With it you can create 2D or 3D models.
Roadblock number 1
The “roadblock”• At this roadblock you will find an instructional video• Open up the video (on the desktop) and complete the challenge• Save the file in your team’s folder (shortcut on desktop)
Smartboards have been installed in all classrooms. They are a great way to bring learning to life.

Communicating effectively is one of life’s greatest challenges. This is especially true for a school the size of NIST. The school has developed a flow chart to help faculty and staff share information through the most effective channel.

Collaborative writing is a great way to allow a number of students to express their ideas in a story. Titanpad is the tool that we will use for this roadblock.

Google Maps is a powerful tool which allows your to explore the world. It is as if all the maps in the world have been combined into this tool.

• Go to “My Maps” and then “create new map” – give the map your group’s name/number• Find the 3 places and add a “place mark” (blue pin). Give each place mark a name

The population of Thailand and China The weather today in Bangkok and Stockholm How much is 50,000 Thai Baht (THB) is in Hong Kong Dollars (HKD)

Voicethread is a great way to allow people to express their ideas and views.

• Go to “Browse” and search for “Bangkok – What do you see?” (http://voicethread.com/share/1857699/) • Take a look at the pictures, choose 2 and leave a comment about what you see• Make sure that you mention your group name when you start
Flickr is a tool which allows people to share photos online. Most users simply upload and share their photos but there is a lot more on offer through the site.

The “roadblock”• There will be a set of iPod touches and a set of cameras at this station• You will need to find the following apps on the iPod and take a photo of the screen:

• Once you have the photos upload them to Flickr using this account: Username = [email protected] Password = .....
• Add these photos to a “set” and call the set your group’s name/number
The NIST Blogs have really taken off this year. We are constantly amazed about the quality of the information that is shared. Many other internationals schools have inquired about how we have our blogs organized after seeing the work you have put in.

It is time to look at how we can maintain this level of communication• This is especially important as new staff arrives and teachers change teams• A set of blogging responsibilities have been developed to help clarify faculty members responsibilities when it comes to the blogs• At this roadblock you will find the blog responsibilities chart and a set of scenarios.• Your task it to work out what blog it should be published on and who should publish it.• Record your answers on the “Roadblock List”
Befuddlr is a great way to make puzzles from high quality images.

The “roadblock”• You are going to have to complete a puzzle and see how quickly you can do it• Go to http://www.delicious.com/wkirkwood/befuddlr• Choose any of the pictures on that page• Once the picture opens click on “befuddle it” and see how quickly you can put it back together• Write down your time on your recording sheet
YouTube has a massive collection of videos. While not all of them are great there is some really useful stuff out there.

The “roadblock”• You will need find a series of useful videos about how to solve maths problems• Go to http://www.youtube.com• You are going to need to use the search feature – this works by entering keywords• Find videos which help explain the following:
How to do long division (author: patrickJMT) How to add fractions (author: yourteachermathhelp)
• What are the answers to the problems in each of these videos? • Write your answers on the “Roadblock List”
Skype can get students in touch with other students from anyplace around the world and help them collaborate and make global connections.

The “roadblock”• Figure out how to get a Skype account and check in with “eleict” • Send a message or call to Ele Ict and you will get your next task • Note (if you do not get a reply in two minutes it means I am helping out somewhere else – so please move on to the next station) You need to create an account at www.skype.com Make sure you choose a strong password For example: s4w4tdii (rather than sawatdii)Think about: numbers, letters and characters
ZimmerTwins is a fantastic online tool which allows you to create and tell your own animated stories.

• Click on “Make a Movie” work out how to make a movie• Make sure you save it when you are complete
Wordle is a fantastic tool which can help identify the main points from pieces of text.

The “roadblock”• Open http://www.wordle.net/• Insert the thumb drive into your computer and open the word document “Martin Luther King Speech”• Copy and paste the text of the speech into Wordle and create a “Wordle”• Go to the blog http://ictinthepyp.wordpress.com/ and leave a comment on the “Wordle Post” detailing the 5 biggest words
