Theme or focus of images

Each of these images are really similar, they all have the same message. The images were all took in the city of Zagreb, Croatia.

All the images are abandoned places that everyone has forgot about, no one has bothered to finished the construction or tried to keep the buildings in good condition. The first image is of a half built building that was supposed to be a shopping mall when finished. Image 2 is a unfinished building of a sports centre. In this image there are tire marks across an old car park. This suggests people have been here recent to the time the photo was taken. In image 3 there is a house that is also unfinished, this house was in construction to be a disability care home. The grass and hedges around the house look as If they're kept tidy regardless of the abandoned home. The final image has a large abandoned half

finished hospital. The plants around this building are over grown.

The colours in these images are really dull and pale, the grass still looks green but it looks as though the photographer has edited the pictures to make them look dull to go with the theme of abandoned buildings and places no one goes anymore.

Composition

As the photographer decides where to stand, moves the camera, or zooms in on a scene, she selects what to include in the image. What did the photographer choose to include or exclude in the image? If she had zoomed out or stood further away, what additional information could we see? The composition of the photograph can also be altered later by cropping. How does the decision to frame only certain elements in the photograph affect the message conveyed by the photograph?

The photographer has chosen to stand either straight in front of the buildings or just slightly at an angle. This suggests he wanted to get other things around the building within the shot. For example in the third image the photographer has took this from the side instead of straight on so the grass, tree and hedges are captured as well as the building.

If the photographer didn't get the grass, tree and hedges into that shot we wouldn't see that people go there and take notice of how they look.

Techniques used

These images are quite dark but look as though they have been editied to make them look darker. I think the images have been made to look darker, this means that when the photographer was taking the images it

was quite bright outside. The camera would have been set up for average lighting, the shutter speed setting would have been set to around 1/150 - 1/500s.

Strengths & WeaknessesI think the buildings themselves are a strength for these images. Also the editing that has been used to make them look slightly dull.

A weakness would be including more of the surroundings within the image.
