1 Maybe it is because this is just a introduction course but I feel like a lot of my questions are not answered directly. A lotof my questions I ask in class are asking for a deeper understanding, like why something applies or why not.

10/20/2016 1:52 PM

2 Oh yeah. No doubt. 10/20/2016 1:48 PM

3 I think that he knows very much about his topic. However, sometimes there is so much information that he wants toshare that it causes him to go on tangents about information that is not really relevant.

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

4 He knows everything about psychology 10/20/2016 1:47 PM

5 He is very compassionate towards psych and it is clear how much he truly enjoys teaching. 10/20/2016 1:46 PM

6 Proctor offers many interesting case studies as supplemental material that he has evidently researched before. 10/20/2016 9:12 AM

Q7 In general, the pace of the class is:Answered: 32 Skipped: 1

Total 32

# Comments (please be specific if answered too fast or too slow) Date

1 At times, it seems we speed past topics that we aren't really sure of, but other than that we usually are able to makesure we understand everything before we move on.

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

2 We have a nice pace. It's not too fast or too slow but it is really easy to not hold yourself accountable for things as werarely have check-ins which means that it is easy to get caught up in other things and let yourself fall behind.

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

3 I understand that we have a lot of material to cover, but I think we need to review the actual material more instead ofgoing father.

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

4 I feel like we move everyday from one module to the next, but we should stay and work a little longer on the modulesthat are harder, like the more sciencey modules

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

5 I wish we analyzed the topics a little deeper 10/20/2016 1:47 PM

6 although some of the topics can go by very fast and some of the terms can get touched on a little. 10/20/2016 1:46 PM

7 He always lets people ask questions and he never goes too slowly while explaining something. 10/20/2016 1:46 PM

8 Although the course obviously moves fast because it is an AP, its probably the most reasonably paced AP that I amtaking, which is nice to not feel that rushed with all of the content we are learning.

10/20/2016 9:08 AM

9 Sometimes I feel like we skip over important topics because we are moving too fast. 10/20/2016 9:07 AM

10 The material is easy to comprehend for me but we have a test like every two weeks 10/20/2016 9:07 AM

11 Sometimes Proctor goes too fast through the slides on the Powerpoint and it's difficult to take notes if there is anythingthat I want to write down. I feel too awkward to ask you to go back but going slower on the Powerpoint would beuseful.

10/20/2016 9:04 AM

12 i feel like we go through modules a little too quickly. we will read the module and then spend one day on it and thenmove on. also i feel like we don't really do enough practice between learning the material and then the test.

1 Sometimes it is still unclear why points are taken off on the FRQs. Maybe it would be nice to spend a little time inclass going over exactly how to answer the FRQs so that we know how to get the maximum number of points. Thiscould include analyzing the prompts of questions and learning what is necessary or not necessary

10/20/2016 1:52 PM

2 I wish I was able to keep my tests or look them over more than I do because I can know I didn't use a term correctly, but by the time I'm studying again I don't remember exactly what I did wrong when I applied it.

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

3 We don't so much get feedback as we give ourselves feedback. Besides being pulled out of class if you're fallingbehind, there isn't too much you feedback.

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

4 I love when we go over the tests in this class. 10/20/2016 1:46 PM

5 The way that Proctor grades our tests is really helpful because he always writes not only the right answer but alsocomments on what is right and wrong about what we said.

10/20/2016 9:08 AM

6 Not so much that he gives me feedback but he requires that we complete test reflections which is good for my futurereview

1 It might be nice to have more smaller points outside of tests. I know this could be hard to do, but it would be nice forus because then our whole grade does not depend on a few tests.

1 Watching videos and case studies 10/21/2016 9:07 AM

2 My favorite thing about this class is the teacher. Proctor may be new to the school as of last year but is one of the bestteachers I have ever been fortunate enough to learn from. Not only is he enthusiastic about the material but heemploys a variety of techniques from videos, lecture, activities and class discussion to help teach the content to manydifferent learners. Class is never boring and I am always engaged in my learning. Despite the strenuous course loadof being an AP I truly enjoy the class and the content that is being taught. I feel respected and cared for as anindividual student and truly feel as if Proctor has a vested interest in my success in the class. Proctor is one of themost understanding teachers in the school of the stress and heavy workload placed on students and his ability to beflexible with test dates have prevented many meltdowns in an already stressful year. Proctor is one of the bestteachers MICDS has ever had and should be a model for future teachers employed by the school.

3 I like watching movies and hearing stories that apply to what we are learning. 10/20/2016 1:52 PM

4 It is a class like no other. All this information is completely new (except for some common knowledge stuff) and enjoybeing in a class where everyone is at an equal level, all learning this new information together. I enjoy how the courseincludes a variety of sub topics so even if you hate the class one week, you may love it the next. It has definitely taughtme that this may be something I want to continue pursuing in college that I would have never acknowledgedotherwise.

10/20/2016 1:52 PM

5 I love the energy of the class, it makes it a very calm but enjoyable class to go to. I'm never like "Ugh, I have Psychnext"

7 I enjoy the simulations we do in class (ex. Dhidi). I also enjoy the positive attitude you bring to class everyday. 10/20/2016 1:48 PM

8 I enjoy learning about random psych information that is really interesting. Also, the case studies that we study are veryinteresting to me.

10/20/2016 1:47 PM

14 I really enjoy Proctors enthusiasm. He has made me more interested in the subject matter than I expected to be. Dueto his attitude about psych, I feel comfortable coming to him with questions if need be.

1 1. about 2 hours when we meet 3 times a week and about 2 and a half when we meet 4 times 2. The formativeassessments are helpful cause they help me associate things with activities and remember things. Sometimes theyaren't so useful but overall they are

10/21/2016 9:07 AM

2 I spend roughly one hour reading each module and taking notes and so nights when there are two modules due, it isusually about two hours. I tend to spend about 4 hours total reviewing for tests, doing practice problems and practiceFRQs. I also spend about 30 minutes each night going over the notes for the next days class. I think the teachingmethods are incredibly helpful but feel I could benefit from a little bit more lecture over the content. I really enjoy theclass activities and discussions and find them incredibly helpful for breaking up class as well as better understandingthe material but sometimes feel a little uncertain on the content and would like a little more lecture.

10/20/2016 5:01 PM

3 1. I spend about 30-45 minutes just reading the modules without taking notes. I spend more time studying, probably30-60 minutes a night for about a week. 2. I love the question generating and the snowball. supplemental readings areinteresting. Personally, I think I would like to see a little more structure in class. it is hard when only some things areexplained in the reading and others are completely left out. But at the same time, I love the relaxed environment andhow we get to share personal stories or do fun activities that keep me engaged. I think for the more science units, likethe brain or the eye sight, it would be helpful to watch videos explaining it because it is easier to understand that waythan through reading. Having the practice multiple choice is very helpful as well.

10/20/2016 1:52 PM

4 1. I spend about an hour and a half on homework a night. On nights before tests I definitely spend more time. I wouldsuggest not giving two modules at the same time. I understand there is a lot to cover in a short amount of time butmaybe using class time to read a module together (read out loud) or start individual homework would be helpful. 2. Ihave enjoyed all of the new activities you try...although the snowball activity can feel awkward if you aren't sure youranswer is correct and then someone asked a question or comment about yours. The classes when we do a littleactivity are very important because it is hard to focus for an hour and a half without doing something other thanlistening to a lecture.

10/20/2016 1:52 PM

5 I spend probably 45 minutes a night in note taking, reading, and studying all combined, sometimes more than that butnot usually. These techniques work well, usually I end up better understanding a topic but for me I get really anxiouswhen any of my answers are being put up in front of the class and then I have to explain them. I prefer the questionactivity because I can ask my question and figure it out but I don't like having to have my answers read out loud, especially if they aren't 100% correct.

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

6 I do not spend nearly as much time as I should. I often procrastinate readings because I let other things takepresident. Not to say that I don't enjoy the class or that I put it off because I don't want to do it. The readings are justlengthy and I often see more benefit in doing the homework that is due the next day or next period over something Iwon't be tested on for weeks.

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

7 1. I spend anywhere from an hour to three hours each night on the reading, questions, notes, note cards, and testingmyself. It takes me a long time to complete all of these steps. 2. I really liked the snowball thing because it got me upand moving in the middle of class. My other teacher actually had us all stand up in the middle of class the other dayand get into a circle and walk around the room. It was a silly thing, but it got the blood to flow back into my legs andjust helped my energy in general. I also like the "question-generating" activity because it is a different way of testingmyself over the material.

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

8 1. I probably spend one to two hours on the coursework outside of class. 2. I really enjoyed the snowball activitybecause I feel that it increases my understanding of the topic. Also, I feel that an occasional reading quiz that isformative would be helpful so that we are able to understand what we are confused about from the reading.

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

9 On the homefun I usually spend approximately 15-30 minutes depending on how long the section. However, forstudying I usually spend approximately 2-3 hours total. I liked the snowball activity, I thought it provided an opportunityto get class feedback on our writing and responses. In addition, when we would read other people's responses itallowed us to think of the issue in a different way and gain further knowledge. Throughout the unit providing somegraded homework or class grades would be helpful in assessing us and our understanding outside of testing becausetesting only allows so much of our knowledge to be seen.

Page 28: Student survey results 2016-2017 ap psychology t1

10 I spend a fair amount of time on psych, the textbook reading can be kind of a lot even though it is only a couple ofpages, there is a lot of information and taking notes and highlighting requires more effort As far as improvement, Iwould say that we focus class time a lot on the big ideas but then on the tests there are some very detailed questionsthat are then hard to answer. I do like how the class feels like a reverse classroom set up where we teach ourselvesby doing the reading and then come to class to watch a movie or do an activity because I feel like that helps mepersonally have a deeper knowledge and be able to remember whatever it is we are learning better. I think a lot oftimes the tests are too hard, I know everyone thinks tests are always too hard but I think that especially since they areworth so many points and making corrections is not an option, they seem to test the large amount of topics on a superdetailed level.

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

11 1. For psychology, I usually spend about 30 minutes. Sometimes more (like the night before a test), and sometimesless, but 30 is pretty average for reading and looking over the powerpoint. 2. I really enjoyed these activities. Not onlydid they help me with understanding the content, they also added variety to the course and were fun to complete. Ibelieve that we should continue to do activities like this in the future because they are fun and helpful.

10/20/2016 1:48 PM

12 I spend 20-35 minutes a night doing homefun or studying for this class so it is very manageable. I enjoy the formativeactivities because they are a great break from lecture based classes. however, sometimes I struggle to connect theactivities to the questions asked on the test. The formative information is helpful, but I feel it does not connect to thecontent given on tests. Creating engaging activities that tie into graded activities better would be something that Iwould greatly appreciate.

10/20/2016 1:47 PM

13 1. Homefun doesn't take long, maybe half an hour. Studying for the test probably takes 1-2 hours but with that studytime I am usually well prepared. 2. I do generally like the techniques implemented to teach the class as I think, like isaid earlier, that they are helpful and fun. The only slight criticism is that there are some that might force people toshare their responses who maybe didn't want to, but that might not necessarily be a bad thing. I think the techniquesare overall helpful because they help us understand the real world application of the concepts we are learning which isimportant and should be implemented in more classes.

10/20/2016 1:47 PM

14 I probably spend around an hour max. This is depending upon if there is a test coming up and if I am not fullycomprehending the material. I believe that these techniques are very effective. Activities keep the class interesting anddon't allow for people to become bored while note taking. I believe they also help us learn because we are attackingthe information in a new fun way. I know personally that these activities have helped me to better comprehend theinformation especially when we did the sharing of PA's.

10/20/2016 1:47 PM

15 How much time do you spend, on average, per day, on “stuff” for this class outside of our actual class time? This“stuff” could include homefun, studying, etc. Please answer in the online survey in the space provided for additionalquestions from your teacher. I spend about a hour and a half on this subject alone per night. this is a combination ofreading the module, annotating, understanding the terms, quizzing myself with the questions at the end of the moduleand going back to previous modules and reviewing. I would appreciate your feedback on the effectiveness of thesetechniques. Did you like them? Why or why not? Did they help you learn/practice the content in an effective way?Why or why not? Do you have any other thoughts for me on how to better formatively assess you throughout eachunit? Please answer in the online survey in the space provided for additional questions from your teacher (the samespace in which you answered question #1!) I like all of the activities so far especially the ones that have studentsdemonstrate what we are learning, for example the two people being the right and left hemisphere of the brain. Since iam a very visual learner and learn best from examples, im glad that there is a balance of "normal" teaching anddemonstrations to expand our knowledge of the topic.

10/20/2016 1:46 PM

16 1. Homefun is like an hour Studying is like 5-6 hours 2. I did like the snowball activity, it changes the pace of the classand generates questions that I want to ask but i do not know how to.

10/20/2016 1:46 PM

17 1. I spend around 30 min a night doing my homefun! 2. I really like the snowball technique because it was fun and itallows you to read people's ideas that you are not necessarily friends with. When we do class activities such as the(how fast a neuron impulse travels) it was super cool how we did that and it was a fun way to learn the term. I reallyenjoy how we do not have quizzes in the class because it alleviates the stress from reading each module with 100%focus every single day, but I think we should have more labs, presentations, or graded homework which would helpour chances in case we didn't do as well on a test as we expected.

10/20/2016 1:46 PM

18 1. I spend an average of 30-45 minutes every night doing homefun and practicing for this class. 2. I really love that wedo activities to further our knowledge about the reading in class. It is helpful in forming PAs during our secondreadings of the text (before the test) and I love that we apply what we learned to everyday life. I feel that the formativeassignments and activities in class motivate us to come to class more prepared every day and are a more efficient useof our time than simply re-reading the textbook information. I've never been in a class like this and I wish that all myclasses were structured like this.

10/20/2016 1:45 PM

19 1. I usually spend 30 minutes to an hour each night to read and annotate the readings so I can understand theconcept. For studying, I probably spend a minimum of 6 hours studying it (spread out of course) 2. I really like thetechniques you've been using because they aren't just fun, but they really do help me understand the material muchbetter. I haven't really experienced anything yet that isn't effective. Keep doing what you're doing! :)

20 1. I spend about 20-30 minutes reading homefun whenever it is assigned. 2. I thought that the question-generatingactivity was effective in that it allowed us to create examples and evaluate those of our classmates to apply conceptsin new ways.

10/20/2016 9:12 AM

21 About 90min. I enjoyed the snowball activity because we got to see a wide range of responses to the same question. Ifeel like the other activity we did on the board could've gone smoother if everyone in the class knew the terms prettywell before hand.

10/20/2016 9:09 AM

22 On average I spend about 1.5 hours on psych a night, but this amounts increases significantly when it comes tostudying for tests. The activities we do in this class are the most helpful thing in the entire class. Not only are theyalways fun and interesting, but they are a way to apply the information to our lives, which makes it so much easier toremember. On every test, I have remembered and applied an activity we did in the class to a concept, which is nice. It's also much more fun doing activities rather than being lectured at all day everyday.

10/20/2016 9:08 AM

23 How much time do you spend, on average, per day, on “stuff” for this class outside of our actual class time? This“stuff” could include homefun, studying, etc. - probably an hour at the most (and thats by choice). i feel that the workload is just enough and not too much I would appreciate your feedback on the effectiveness of these techniques. Didyou like them? Why or why not? Did they help you learn/practice the content in an effective way? Why or why not?Do you have any other thoughts for me on how to better formatively assess you throughout each unit? - I love thetechniques, as I mentioned before. The heritability activity was really good for me. it helped clarify what heritability is.the question generating activity was really nice too because i got to see PA's for units where i had none and othersthat are relatable :)

This“stuff” could include homefun, studying, etc. Please answer in the online survey in the space provided for additionalquestions from your teacher. Please answer in the online survey in the space provided for additional questions from your teacher (the samespace in which you answered question #1!) I like the techniques used in class, however, I would like to see more in-class demonstrations of the topics/materials that we are learning. etc. krydney and the penny activity.

10/20/2016 9:07 AM

25 1. On average I spend about forty five minutes a night preparing for this class. This includes reading and studying. 2. Ireally really like the question-generating activity because it forces me to use the terms within 24 hours of learningthem. The snowball activity is fun too. Proctor is very good at mixing up class and not making it boring.

10/20/2016 9:07 AM

26 Before tests, I usually spend up to 3 to 4 hours studying, going over my notes, doing practice problems, and reviewingtopics I don't know. For homework, I usually spend about an hour or an hour and a half for reading the modules.Personally, I feel that I am not learning anything new in class that I didn't already get from reading the module. We aregiven the powerpoints to utilize when reading the modules at home, and we just go over basically the textbook, and Ifeel like I don't learn anything new. I like the little activities we do in class, but I still don't think they work for me. Theyare fun, but I don't get anything out of them academically.

10/20/2016 9:06 AM

27 [sorry, I forgot to do the supplemental questions for a different survey submission, so here you go] 1. I spend about 30minutes on this class a night 2. I really enjoy the formative activities. They help me learn because they're fun.

10/20/2016 9:06 AM

This“stuff” could include homefun, studying, etc. Please answer in the online survey in the space provided for additionalquestions from your teacher. For homefun, 30 minutes. Did they helpyou learn/practice the content in an effective way? Why or why not? Do you have any other thoughts for me on how tobetter formatively assess you throughout each unit? Please answer in the online survey in the space provided foradditional questions from your teacher (the same space in which you answered question #1!) I do like them because itincorporates multiple learning styles and engages the students so they do not drift off during class. Yes they help melearn because I am more effective at learning by auditory and kinetic because those are the ways that I practice morefor studying in the past. I do think we should have quizzes after each module like APES does because I does help usunderstand what we were supposed to be getting from the reading, and it would also be helpful to have some morethings in the grade book to balance out the one bad test grade.

10/20/2016 9:06 AM

29 1.- i would say i spend about an hour or two a day if you add up all the times during the day that i work on psych . 2.- ireally do like the activities a lot. i feel like we should definitely do more activities and maybe even more lecturingbecause even though we do the readings i feel like we don't really go over the material enough. I think more formativeactivities and worksheets in class would help to make sure that we grasp the idea before we are tested on it.

10/20/2016 9:06 AM

30 I probably use around an hour studying and preparing for Psych class. I think I use more than usual studying becausefor some reason this class has presented me with quite a bit of difficulty. I think both of these activities are useful inpreparing us for the topics we are learning about. The only thing I don't like is that we have to stand up for them lol

1 My entire page got reset cause I didn't finish in class and switched wifi networks, so nothing saved. I dont remembereverything I said, but one of my big comments is that its hard to keep up with everything cause I have a lot of otherclasses to deal with as well, and can't always spend a ton of time on this class. Because of that, its more helpful tohave test corrections, instead of formative assessments because the formative assessments just kind of tell me what Ialready know, that I'm behind. Test corrections would be way more helpful in boosting my grade, especially since inthis class there arent daily quizzes like APES had, so the tests count for way more.

2 I understand the concept behind having majority of points be tests and not be able to do corrections since that's howcollege is but I think the class should be one or the other a. all points come from unit tests but you can correct FRQ'sto make sure you understand the question fully to prepare for the final exam b. some of the class points come fromtests but we also have graded hw assignments and activities and multiple choice quizzes so that you have more of anopportunity to change your grade

3 I am a very hands on learner so all of the games and things we do really help me to remember the things we'vestudied. I think it would be fun and helpful if we added a few more if we put them in the powerpoint as things to do athome to help study as we go along.

4 I truly enjoy coming to class. Proctor makes the environment relaxed, fun, and interesting, and I learn a lot every day. 10/20/2016 1:48 PM

5 Overall, I really don't have anything bad to say about Proc. He is both effective in keeping the class interesting and inteaching the information well.

6 I would like there to be more graded assignments, I feel like all we do in this class is the tests. Maybe some gradedworksheets, labs, questions to the homework from the night before, or corrrections on tests, maybe a quiz or two
