Fees• All HE Institutions can charge up to £3375

tuition fees• You can apply for a tuition fees loan or pay

directly• Must be repaid

Loan and grant for living costs (England)

Maintenance Grant• ‘Free’ – does not have to be repaid• Up to £2,906• If you’re household income is £25,000 or less

you will receive the full amount• If your household income is between £25,001

and £50,020 you would receive a partial amount

Maintenance Loan• Maximum Maintenance Loan available is

£4,950 (£3,838 if you live in the parental home)

• 72% non-means tested• 28% is means-tested• Maintenance Grant reduces the amount of

Maintenance Grant you can receive is £6,403

Paying Back Loans• Neither loans needs to be paid back until a

Graduate is earning over £15,000• It is paid back at a rate of 9% of your salary• Example - if you earn £18,000 the rate per week is

£5.19 deduction• Evidence suggests Graduate earn greater wages

and get promoted quicker• If you never earn over £15,000 you don’t have to

pay back your loans

• Bursaries differ from institution to institution

• Leeds Trinity University College provide a bursary of an additional £500 - £1000 which can contribute to your maintenance grant.

A Note on 2012/13• Cost of degree uncapped • Still maintenance grants (for household

income under £60 000) and loans • Pay back when you earn £21 000 at

9% - £25 000 = £7 a week
