Activities and procedures Event before: A grandma wanted a pair of shoes with all the colors she likes. The grandma asked her son to buy her the shoes but he was too busy. The grandma asked her daughter to buy her the shoes but the daughter was too busy. The grandma was sad. One day, she told her grandson, Xiao Tian about the shoes she wanted. The boy lived with her. She took care of Xiao Tian when his parents went to work. Activities and procedures Event before:

A grandma wanted a pair of shoes with all the colors she likes. The grandma asked her son to buy her the shoes but he was too busy. Use the storytelling technique to tell the story. Ask students questions to check the understanding of the story.

Provide key words of the story on board

Have students retell the story orally

Read the story in writing

Add background information of the story

Student actors play the part of the characters in the story

Event after:

Xian Tian decided to make a pair of shoes with rainbow colors for his grandma. The grandma had a pair of white shoes. Xiao Tian planned to add colors onto the white shoes. How did he solve this problem?

Let the students brainstorm possible ways to solve the problem

Suggested ideas: Xiao Tian went to the backyard to look for colors. He found a red flower. He glued the red flower on the shoes. Next, he found a green leaf. He glued the green leaf on the shoes. Next, what color will he add to the shoes? (Brainstorm ideas from students)

On Thanksgiving Day, Xiao Tian gave the pair of rainbow shoes he made to Grandma to thank her for taking care of him.

Step 3

Brainstorm ideas of how to solve the problem

Individual students illustrate the rainbow shoes

Ask questions about how to create a rainbow shoes

Provide keywords of the story on board

Ask students to retell the story

Step 4

Add details to the story in writing

Students work in pairs to read the story

Students work on reading fluency and accuracy

Differentiated worksheets for different levels of students to work on character writing and/or grammatical structures.
