Day 1
Rainbow Shoes
Set expectations
Before starting the story, set the expectations. To
differentiate learning, expect students to visually follow the
key words on board and listen attentively to the story. For
students who have typing skills, type the story on the
computer while listening. For those who are proficient in
writing, handwrite the story while listening.
Start storytelling
Write keywords in Chinese with the support of pinyin and
English meaning while telling the story. Tell the story one
sentence at a time.
Check comprehensibility
Ask students to answer questions after telling one or two
facts. For students who struggle in listening
comprehension, ask yes and no questions to check their
understanding. For average students, ask who, what, when,
where, why and how questions. Expect student to answer in
a complete sentence to practice grammar structure. For
high level students, ask them to retell the story.
