I think the interactive settings have been compromised by uploading to Google Presentation, however I find it easier to collaborate....so I was thinking when we create the content here, I'll just transfer it to the powerpoint version. But, i also thought that uploading it into Voicethread might also make it lose it's interactivity....but i don't know.
Jennifer Nguyen
Yeah, that's ok for the time being, but maybe later you or I can try uploading in VoiceThread to make sure. If it doesn't work, well, it's no big deal to me haha. So, for picture, I googled wiki images and found 2 - not sure if you like to use one of these? (Sorry, I don't know how to copy the image only URL on a mac, so links are long.) Just for visual attractiveness purposes:http://www.google.com/imgres?sa=X&biw=1262&bih=659&tbm=isch&tbnid=dThuas_B7so7WM:&imgrefurl=http://www.creativeeducation.co.uk/blog/index.php/2011/06/class-wiki/&docid=6i7tZQx7c155bM&imgurl=http://www.creativeeducation.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/wiki.gif&w=450&h=250&ei=88NRUvP2GoPUiwLWloCgCg&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:6,s:0,i:99&iact=rc&page=1&tbnh=167&tbnw=301&start=0&ndsp=15&tx=232&ty=31ORhttp://www.google.com/imgres?sa=X&biw=1262&bih=659&tbm=isch&tbnid=stihkxkWOR0yQM:&imgrefurl=http://digiteen09-2.flatclassroomproject.org/Access_Collaboration&docid=_wE-YzMM9q4FwM&imgurl=http://digiteen09-2.flatclassroomproject.org/file/view/wiki-concept-map.png/71762537/782x391/wiki-concept-map.png&w=578&h=368&ei=88NRUvP2GoPUiwLWloCgCg&zoom=1&ved=1t:3588,r:35,s:0,i:195&iact=rc&page=3&tbnh=117&tbnw=184&start=31&ndsp=20&tx=150&ty=47

CUTE! I think the first pic is perfect. I think it wonderfully illustrates the crowdsourcing nature with the little people. NICE!

Why a Wiki?

Stonewall Japan’s Wiki will provide resources in English to support the LGBTQ community in Japan.

* Crowd-sourcing valuable information* Making edits in real-time, 24-7* Inviting members to improve resources

Wi-ki: a website that allows visitors to make changes, contributions, or corrections.

Jennifer Nguyen
Maybe add here Merriam-Webster's definition of wi-ki: a Web site that allows visitors to make changes, contributions, or corrections.
Toby Siguenza
Good idea, Jennifer!
Toby Siguenza
let me know if you if you think it doesn't look quite right....i'm not 100 percent happy with the changes i made on this slide, but not sure how to improve.....
Jennifer Nguyen
What about the whiteboard instead? Also is the 'Q' a typo?

How people will learn to use a WikiUsing Cognitive Information Processing

Toby Siguenza
According to the CIP model for Expert learners document, it had the steps first categorized in 4 steps. I thought maybe these slides could reflect that. Then the other things mentioned could go on the explanation slides later. ???
Jennifer Nguyen
Yup, looks good /fine with me.

Attention[Insert YouTube video here ?]

Attention Encode

Store Retrieve

● Selective Attention: The meaning of editing the Wiki is that they are making their community more comfortable for living in Japan.

● Similarity: The sign in and editing is similar to signing in, and editing a comment in Facebook or other websites like blogs, with edit features.

● Task complexity: That will range depending on how much familiarity the user has with editing web content.

Awesome! I think this is great.I put the video where you put the placemarker just to test it. When the new video is ready, I'll replace it.
Toby Siguenza
I've never done this format before, so I'm not sure if we use slides 4-7 or 8-12, or we use all of them. What do you think about this?
Jennifer Nguyen
The template is set up to use all of them as in when one clicks on the orange part, it will jump back and forth. BUT, if we are utilizing VoiceThread, and if its anything like Google share, then it shouldn't matter, because in this presentation, we don't need it to interact that much. My idea is to use slides 8-12 for the instructional screenshots/steps, so it wouldn't relate to slides 4-7. Although, I am not sure if we can change the setting; I'll try playing with that and VoiceThread later. What do you think?
Jennifer Nguyen
Oh, btw, I started integrating what you said in your email and the CIP model to show what we learned and how we would incorporate the theory into the actual trainings.
Toby Siguenza
I will try to upload this presentation into Voicethread today or tonight when i get the chance.....

EncodeThe YouTube video incorporates several of the main points of the CIP model.

It captures attention, as well as employs encoding methods like chunking, grouping information into categories, imagery (screenshots), and mnemonic devices (SEAS).

Per the CIP theory, “elaborative rehearsal is otherwise known as encoding” as well.

Attention Encode

Store Retrieve

• Relation between Information & Previous Knowledge: The YouTube instructional video is an organized & contemporary scheme where information is grouped by directional steps.

• Imagery: Both the Youtube video and screenshots (to follow) in this presentation provides visual aids.

• Mnemonic Device: ‘SEAS’ (introduced in slide 10) helps learners remember the objectives of the activity at hand.

I'm giddy because of how profesh this looks! I think we're doing a pretty awesome job.....
Page 6: StoneWall Japan: Wiki Training Cognitive Lesson

Store / Rehearsal

*STM: Short-term Memory.

**LTM: Long-term Memory.

Attention Encode

Store Retrieve

• Maintenance Rehearsal: Repetition of information can be achieved by presenting the instructional presentation multiple times for STM*.

• Elaborative Rehearsal: In order for learners to be able to effectively utilize the Wiki, learners must encode through live instructions, images, and/or applying mnemonics.

• Practice: At the end of the YouTube video, learners will be given an assignment to practice editing a selected piece of information, in order to rehearse and store into their LTM*.

Back to main

Page 7: StoneWall Japan: Wiki Training Cognitive Lesson

Retrieval from LTMThe true test of the “free recall” retrieval will be whether people will actually start adding and editing the Wiki in real life.

Attention Encode

Store Retrieve

• Free Recall: To successfully edit the Wiki whenever learners run into new, useful information.

• Cued Recall or Recognition: A quiz will be implemented to help the learners remember this activity and test the learners’ ability to retrieve the newly learned information.

So, I was thinking this section on can be step by step screen shots associated with your mnemonic? I can create it using your link you provided but I'm not sure if you had any specifics (since the link wasn't detailed)?
Toby Siguenza
Yes, i think this is a good use of these last slides. Do you think we need to include them in our final presentation to go over (probably, huh?)....or just allude to them since they'll also be present in the instructional video. What's your opinion?
Toby Siguenza
Also, like I said in my last email to you, i think having the clearest, most effectively chunked portrayal of the steps is the best way. There's a prototype of the steps on the front page of the Wiki, but if we can make it even easier to understand and follow, it'd be awesome. I'm going to contact Becca, who's in charge of the Wiki. Is it okay to invite her to view & comment on this part of the project? She'll be able to give us good feedback.
