Recommendations from May 16 meeting Include a Z39.50 union catalog as part of a future
linked system project Consider WISCAT and Linked Systems projects
together Division should proceed with vendor or vendors that
will help make the transition towards linked systems• The timing of such a transition cannot be determined
before linking systems is initiated and later evaluated

Some Issues to Address
There is a need to Use Linked System funding to procure Fretwell-
Downing Have transition time when Brodart and Auto-
Graphics services may overlap Have close cooperation from all parties to work in a
multi-vendor environment Address the linking of individual and shared
systems in the context of• Capabilities of the vendors’ products• Current interloan policies and procedures
17
Transition Steps: July - October 2001
Provide older copy of full WISCAT file to Auto-Graphics
Test loading and batch update processes Test interactive update processes Test serials union catalog update processes Load June update when available in September
18
Transition Steps: July - October 2001
Discontinue updating WISCAT databases with Brodart
Allow libraries to continue to use the Brodart client to create update transactions
Apply Brodart client transactions to Auto-Graphics file Work with Auto-Graphics on file format and logistics
of this process
19
Transition Steps: October - December 2001
Review and accept Auto-Graphics union catalog conversion
Install and configure Fretwell-Downing software for interlibrary loan
Test process of transferring requests from Auto-Graphics to Fretwell-Downing
Set-up test libraries for Fretwell-Downing interlibrary loan process
20
Transition Steps: October - December 2001
Library and system staff training Migrate libraries from QuILL to Fretwell-Downing
interlibrary loan management software Test ISO capacity with OCLC and DOCLINE Review/modify interloan procedures and
protocols
21
Transition Steps:Moving Towards Linked Systems
Determine order for working with libraries that want to connect using Z39.50 searching
Begin to configure Fretwell-Downing for Z39.50 searching of shared/local online catalogs
Test Z39.50 configuration with local/shared systems Work initially with three library systems Expand to more libraries when feasible
22
Transition Steps:Moving Towards Linked Systems
Test Z39.50 searching as a means of creating interlibrary loan requests
At a later date Evaluate the use of Z39.50 searching and related
interlibrary loan processes in a high volume environment
