Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. Col 3:5

Therefore, put to death the members of your earthly bodies from immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.

Put to death (νεκροω nekroō): imperative, a command! We are new creatures in Christ (2 Cor 5:17), start living like it

Sanctification!

Immorality (illicit behavior) – You have been bought with a price! 1 Cor 6:12-20Impurity (moral impurity) – We have been called to sanctification! 1 Thess 4:7Passion (strong desire) – Set your mind on Christ Col 3:2Evil desire (craving, coveting) – chokes our fruit bearing ability Mark 4:19Greed (wanting more than your due) – IS idolatry

Romans 6: know your position in Christ, and what He has done for you, then present yourself as His servant

James 4:1-10: humble yourself; submit to God; flee from the Devil (and whatever evil makes you stumble), and draw near to God

For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come (upon the sons of disobedience), Col 3:6

But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, Colossians 3:8-9

Put aside (ἀποτιθημι: undress, put off, rid one’s self of) imperative

Middle voice: doing this for our own good Sins of the mouth, James 3:6-12

Laid aside (ἀπεκδυομαι: take off, disarm) aorist participleDo not lie, since you have already disarmed the old man

Renewal based on knowledge of Christ

… a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all. Colossians 3:11

No national distinctions: Greek and Jew

No religious distinctions: circumcised and uncircumcised

No cultural distinctions: barbarian and Scythian

No economic distinctions: slave and freeman

Christ is sufficient, and we are complete in Him!
